    2005 STS4 V8 transmission flush

Hi everyone, I had my car at the dealer to check the transmission fluid. They said it was full but was dark. I am the second owner and my car has 75k. I'm not sure if the car was driven mostly highway or not but I do both now.

Should I get it flushed/changed soon or wait longer. Any comments would be great!

    Change it.
My rule is what ever the owners manual recommends for fluid changes, I cut that in half.

I would advise against having it "flushed." I have heard far too many horror stories about transmissions going out after the fact. I would just have them drain it, clean/replace the filter, and refill.

Ok. The only issue is I do not have the equipment to change the transmission fluid myself. I will have to have the dealership change it for me. And being that it is a sealed transmission isn't the process of changing it different.

Whatever you do, do not let anyone "flush" your transmission. A simple drain and refill and a filter change is sufficient.

    Re: 2005 STS4 V8 transmission flush

Like a lot of things, there are different opinions but if a shop recommending a flush uses enough fluid to clean their equipment and ensure your car is done right, it will be more costly than dropping the pan and replacing the gasket & 'filter' anyway.

I find myself in the traditional camp but would not necessarily recommend a dealer. If I had access to a transmission shop that sees some of our cars, I'd be more comfortable taking it there than ANYWHERE else. I think most dealers will strongly push for a flush because it's easy money; done right, wrong or not at all, most people wouldn't even know.
