Car seems to hesitate 35-40 mph

Anyone ever have this issue? I have an 05 sts with the north star v8,. If i slowly and accelerate and do not push the pedal with force and try to keep the speed constant around 35 mph and then slowly accelerate from that speed it almost hesitates, feels extremely sluggish.. I basically have to push pedal 3/4 way down so that it downshifts and accelerates.. I can't tell if it's a misfire, or a tranny /torque converter issue.. Any easy way to rule out the other? No check engine light.. But when you feel the slight hesitation I usually accelerate thru it.

Hi, I have an 05 STS 4 V8 too. I noticed the same sluggish feeling recently also. I brought my car to the dealer and had the trans fluid checked. It was full and normal. I checked the air filter because I am the second owner and had the car six months. It had the original filter with dirt and leaves. It was also stamped 2005! Wow! I noticed the car has more pick up and doesn't bog anymore. Hopefully this was helpful!

I thought there was a TSB out there for something similar to this, I vaguely recall a torque convertor issue being mentioned in this. I've noticed the same thing in my car once in a great while, I just press the gas a bit more and hammer through it

Not knowing anything about the tsb for this problem, I can say that it sounds like the t/c is not coming out of lock up under light acceleration.
Had the same problem with my old dodge truck. It was actually programed in the pcm that way. It was frustrating. high gear at wot it would stay locked up.
Try tapping the brake pedal lightly when it does that. Brake switch will send a signal to the computer to unlock the tc.

There have been various TCM programs over the years for the STS. Now, if you're not under warranty and have an early V8, contact Madtuner and get the TCM and ECM of your own preference.

Who knows, drive differently for a week and the 'learning' program may adjust to accommodate your preference.

If this is well known I apologize on advance, but who is Madtuner?

Madtuner is the ONLY known tuner who has cracked the early STS V8 ECM/TCM.

Another workaround for us early 2005 V8 owners is to drive in sport drive (sD). Move the shifter to the right.
