CoolWhy you should NOT play the radio, with engine OFF !

This is a decision ONLY you make, But based on this information,
at least you know, the specs.
It draws about 10 amps with the engine OFF,
there is other stuff it powers.
    So use the radio wisely.
Here is a pic of my DC Clamp On meter !
    Happy Motoring.

The STS is an amperage eating monster...I won't dare let it sit longer than 5 minutes ON without the engine running.

I think 5 minutes is when the car shut off the acc power after turning the car off too (not in acc mode). so yeah that monster screen eats a lot of power.

My CTS-V battery would go dead if the car sat more than 2 weeks or so without being run. Even without the radio on these cars pull some serious power.

Same with my 2001 STS. When I had it up for sale after buying my CTS back in 2011 I had to start it at least once a week and drive it for a good 15m or so to keep the battery from dying completely...

Every time I finish washing the car (about weekly) I park it in the garage and play music with the car in acc mode while drying it off. Every time I treat the leather interior, (about twice a month) same deal. I have to reengage acc mode about 2-4 times on each occasion because the 10 minutes runs out. I guess I'm playing with fire but no signs of problems yet.

Sub - Are you sure you didn't have the defroster on? More seriously, I do understand the importance of turning off HVAC, lights, etc

I had no idea it was drawing that much. I figured 2 or 3, even 5 amps for half an hour is no big deal for a good battery. Drawing 10 amps is still only .12 KVA, but a starting battery isn't designed for a constant draw especially as it becomes drained.

I did forget to mention that I did have to customize the battery tray to make it fit properly though.

Quik - What Type? Optima 78 (model -1078 has no top posts) seems to fit OK.

I have the 1 with Top & Side posts. I'll take a pic in the am & post it. I use the top for all my Audio & extras with a custom made fuse block & distribution block & still retained the factory side connections.

Yes, I understand that would require some modifications. 800 CCA kicks butt compared to the 540 CCA of the OEM Type 101.
