    Mobil 1 or other?

Does it really need Mobil 1 Synthetic, or can we use any Synthetic Oil that meets GM4718M as per the Owner's Manual? (Mobil 1 for 8 quarts is like $100 bucks.).

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I called the local parts store here and they said it'll be about $100 bucks for Mobil 1 5W30 with a filter (that's with a discount).

Local GM dealership said $120.00+tax to change it.

    Yikes.

Mine here, Walmart, was about $ 26.00 a jug (5 Quarts)
Yes, on the first one you need 2 jugs, but then
there is 2 quarts left, and the next time, 2 more,
So on the third oil change , you only need to buy
    one jug and the filter.
BTW, please only use MOBILE 1 filter.
It is recommended with Mobile 1 oil.
My guy here, lists a oil change for $ 19.95
So I go in and offer him a deal, I provide the
oil and filter, and he charges me $ 19.95,
to change them. I get the remaining oil.
I don't get my hands dirty,
    and it's done, professionaly.
    Happy Motoring !

    Re: Mobil 1 or other?

When I bought mine I put Valvoline FullSyn. When Valvoline scanned my vin, I saw that the previous owner also changed the oil there twice before I bought it.

Long story short - noisy lifters

My tech guy instantly asked if I put Mobile One. He recommended I put some Seafoam in it, drive it for a few hundred miles and put Mobile1 in. I gotta say that the Seafoam helped quiet them down a bit, will change the oil this week and keep fingers crossed.

Really weird, considering I ran my Escalade to 160K miles with plenty of heavy towing on Valvoline and never had a single engine problem... I guess they don't make them like they used to

    Re: Mobil 1 or other?

I have done some searching on motor oil couple of years ago. I agree that Mobil 1 is good oil. I use Walmart's Super tech full synthetic oil. What I found out is Mobil oil bottle it for Wal-Mart under Super tech brand. There a web site that break down all the oil. They also bottle for some of the off brand. So I buy Super tech for $17.47 for 5qt. Danny

I like Rotella T6. Its about $19 for a gallon at the local Tractor Supply and I have had great results with my LS cars, Turbo cars, and the STS.

According to the official Cadillac story, the oil used is supposed to be Dexos certified. That is, if you have a warranty right now, you should be using such oil. Here's the link to that list of Dexos certified oils:

    http://www.gmdexos.com/licensedbrand...sedbrands.html

Autozone has it right now for $32.99 with filter.

    True. It's 50.00 for 4.4L right now. That's 100+ to do it.

It's not due right now but I'm going on a mini road trip on the weekend; wanted to do a fresh blood transfusion before that but I can wait.
