My 05 STS - Saving it from the Scrap Yard

I have been around here for a few months mostly researching information before I started posting. I bought a 2005 STS V6 RWD a few months ago from Insurance Auction and it was in fairly rough shape. I have been working on reconstructing it for the past few months.

The vehicle was in a front end accident that deployed the airbags and was sent for repair. Repairs were started on it and the 08 front was mounted by the original body shop but once the cost were re-evaluated the insurance company totaled the vehicle and brought to auction. This is what it looked like at that stage.

As you can see the front bumper was poorly fitted. Both front airbags were deployed which caused the dash to break as well. The interior was dirty from sitting at the auction. The fog lights were attached with one bolt each. and just hanging there.

Once I got the car I cleaned it up and got proper clips and brackets for all the missing pieces for the front. I cleaned the interior and took out the dashboard for replacement. I decided to go the brushed aluminum since I was replacing the dash anyway and also removed the wood trim from the rest of the pieces in the car.

Once the dash and restraint system was repaired I got it running and tested and noticed the engine was making noise. Turn out the timing chain had stretched so I went ahead and replaced the chains, tensioners, guides, oil pump, water pump, spark plugs, all gaskets and filter. This got the engine back in great running shape.

Once on the road I found the rear diff was clunking and the wheel bearings were making noise. I went ahead and bought all 4 brand new wheel bearing hub assemblies, a center support for the driveshaft, and also found a Rear Differential from an 06 CTS that had an LSD. I bought OEM diff bushing and axle seals. Once the diff was ready to go in I dropped everything and installed the new to me diff as well as as the hubs and thew on some new brake pads while I was in there.

I also found that the transmission mount was broken so I replaced that with a new OEM one as well. At this point the car had finally started to ride smooth and the only item left was the noisy tires. I found some Chrysler 300 20in wheels locally and put some 245/35/20 Falken Azenis tires on them to complete the look. The Chrysler wheel fits great as it is 5x115 and there is only a 1mm difference in the hubs. It also sits flush with all the fenders.

There are a few more things I will be doing to it but here it is now

nice work man, can you ask you how much did you get it for (from the auction)?
I always dreamed about doing something similar.
also one more question, where did you get the metal ashtray ?

Looks great. Nice work. You're not a fan of the wood trim it came with?

Thanks, I didn't like the wood trim and the aluminum is more my style so I decided to go into that direction

The wheels were take-offs from a 2012 Chrysler 300 that I found on craigslist for $300. The tires were around $570 after $50 rebate promo.

Mine is a 1SB. They have it too. The aluminium trim looks good. Wood looks nice, but it is ubiquitous and over used too much.
Speaking of 1SA cars, has anyone seen or owned one?
