Help: 2005 STS Double Din Head Unit

I have a stock head unit in my 2005 STS (4.6L V8 N*), which controls driver settings, and I'm pretty sure all of the engine diagnostic information that displays in the dash. I want to install a double DIN head unit without losing all of the diagnostic info. Basically, I want a touchscreen with iPhone hook up (hands free calling through speakers/caller display/phonebook), and the ability to play iTunes from my phone/Pandora, etc. I don't necessarily want a navigation system.

I've gotten various answers from car audio shops and online - I wanted to ask you guys if anyone else has done this upgrade successfully, and what it took to get there. I dont really trust myself with wiring stereos, I don't have a whole lot of experience with it, so I'm most likely going to need to get it installed somewhere. I take a lot of work calls while I'm driving and want to be legit. Any help would be really appreciated!

I've yet to see it done on a non-nav STS but have seen plenty of 1st gen CTS guys remove the disc changer mech and install a single/double DIN HU in its place while retaining DIC controls. It involves modifying the motherboard and relocating some circuits IIRC...

Hopefully someone else chimes in with some more info for you.

I did it earlier this year. Here's the link to the thread: http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/p...llacforums.com

Let me know if the link worked.
