Newbie! 2006 STS 3.6 in Denmark

Hi Forum. Just bought my first Cadillac. A 2006 STS 3.6 Sport luxury. A rare car here in Denmark. It's not even delivered yet. Three questions:
-There's a special instruction manual for the combined GPS/Radio, but that book is not in my car. Where can I download/buy it?
-The steering column can't go in and out. Up and down is fine. When using the knob to get it in and out, you can hear the electric motor trying to do its job, but nothing happens. As if the column was bolted together...
-One option I'm missing is the remote start, to heat it up before driving in the morning. Was that an option in 2006, and can I buy the module and key fobs, or is it so integrated in the car that I might as well give up?

I'm sure I'll run into other question, for now I'm just looking forward to receiving it

    Re: Newbie!

...is your STS a regular (european) export model...or is it a grey marketed (US) "domestic" model?

...on exports the remote start wasn't available...

...also...export models got some (special) options not available on domestic cars...and vice versa...

    Re: Newbie!

...I think it is possible, if you change the export 433 MHz RCDLM (remote control door lock module) to the domestic 315 Mhz receiver/module, including the domestic fobs (the 433 MHz export fob hasn't got the "extra" push button for remote start)
...you also have to change all 4 tpms (tire pressure monitor system) sensors in the wheels...(433 MHz to 315 MHz)
...and in the end you will need a gm/cadillac dealership with a Tech II to change the programming/activate the domestic option...

    ...for the manual:
...you can download the domestic market pdf...it's an owner manual and a separate navigation/radio manual...
(I have the two german "books" - the export owner and navigation manual - and the original US release...and also the two US/Canada 2006 pdf...)
....but there are some (essential) differences between the export release and domestic paperwork/pdf...

...ebay.com is a good source for the domestic/english speaking paper manual...I can provide you with the two pdf, if you want...

The steering column not going in/out sounds like an odd issue...

you might try using alldatadiy.com ... their info is usually pretty good.
I have it for my 08 V8 and it has contained useful diagnostic steps.
the 08+ have a different steering wheel and I would assume different steering column too so not sure if my data would be useful.

Re: Newbie! 2006 STS 3.6 in Denmark

I'm looking to buy a complete Shop Service Manual for my 2006. First, is it a 2006, VIN ends on 113217?
I can find complete for 2005 and 2007 and Volume 1&2 for 2006. Should I buy a complete 2005 or 2007, which is closer to mine?

    Thanks

...2005 is closer....some little, but serious changes for 2007...
btw...there are 2006 sts factory service manuals on ebay...from time to time...last (complete) 2006 set I saw was sold one week ago on ebay.com...you mentioned other years on ebay...you can ask the seller(s) for a 2006 compilation...

    ...useless...
...we need your complete VIN to "decode" if your car is a 2005 or a 2006...
or at least the 10th "digit"/position...5 is 2005...6 is 2006

    samples:
    1G6Dxxxxx5xxxxxxx for 2005
    1G6Dxxxxx6xxxxxxx for 2006

Re: Newbie! 2006 STS 3.6 in Denmark

Finally the Cadillac was delivered. After sitting a bit in it and driving an hour, I must say I'm impressed. Besides the obvious like the leather, wood and quietness, it feels friendly. You feel pampered. Most things (much to learn) are logical, I've only used half the features yet.
The drive is great. Quiet and smooth. And at normal speeds it handles on rails and feels a lot lighter than it is. And the V6 is enough, I never needed more power.
Only annoying things are the 3-4 things that don't work, I got it cheap as it was, will fix these things myself I hope.

    Great car!
