    2008 Rear back-up Camera

I just purchased a 2008 STS and it has a back-up camera on the license plate frame. Can anyone tell me if this was an option from the factory or if it would have to have been an add on aftermarket? It is not disguised very well, it is a pretty noticeable camera that bolts in the same holes with the license plate. The screen shows up on the rear view mirror. Just curious if it is factory installed or not. Thank you.

if the OEM mirror was replaced you likely lost the intellibeam highbeams (if the highbeams even work without it).

    Re: 2008 Rear back-up Camera

Thanks for the responses so far. My main reason for asking this question is because since i purchased the car used a few weeks ago, the High Beams do not work. I called the dealer and they are of no help unless i bring the car in and i will have to pay for any labor and parts since it was not certified. The car only has 52,00 miles on it, so i am pretty sure the high beam bulbs are not burnt out. i have attached a few pics of the rear view mirror with the back up monitor on, a view of the back of the mirror, and also some pictures of the back up camera itself. I read that you can turn the intellibeams off by pushing the power button on the mirror. When i do this, the back-up camera does not work then either. Any more help on this issue would be great. I have no issue at all getting rid of the back-up camera, it is pretty much useless anyhow.20130821_203955.jpg20130821_203848.jpg20130821_203837.jpg20130821_203741.jpg

    Re: 2008 Rear back-up Camera

You have your Damn Previous Owner (DPO) to thank for substituting your original mirror with the aftermarket mirror/camera setup like suggested. Your car probably was built with the TQ5 Intellibeam option which has a sensor in the mirror to automatically dim the headlights. Without that mirror, your high beams won't work. You can check the label on the spare tire cover to be sure.

You might be able to find the right mirror through an auto-recycler. If you decide to go new, check with Chris Heath at Rippy's Cadillac (on this forum). He is very helpful and competitivly priced.

If you have HIDs then you have intellibeam which is why the high beams don't work. You might find a dealer that will reflash the car to delete the option from the car, not sure if that would allow the high beams to work as there is likely a different setup of relays and wiring in the car.

Basically trash that mirror (sell on eBay) and get the correct intellibeam mirror from Rippy.

    Re: 2008 Rear back-up Camera

I am in Wisconsin. How hard is it to replace the mirror? What do i do with the back-up camera and wiring for it? Does anyone have a picture or part number for the correct mirror at all? I figured it had to be something with that camera. I talked to the dealer and had them ask the previous owner if they had any issues with the high beams at all and they told him they did not recall any issues. BS. It was a one owner car by an older couple. I think they are just losing their memories!

Give any Cadillac dealer your VIN and they can price the correct mirror for you; as can any of the regular sources, perhaps even Rock Auto.

...hmm, yes...should work...somehow I think (maybe a programming/reflash via Tech II or something like that) ...cause...as an example:
...you know, all european export STS got HID's (V6 and V8 )....but Intellibeam wasn't available...!(...and our high beams work... )

I'd be interested in the mirror you have now.

Does or did your car have lane departure? If so that may be a different mirror than others.

I do not believe it has the lane departure feature at all. Once I get this all figured out and get the correct mirror ill let you know.
