    2006 Cadillac STS FOB Problems

Well to make a long story short, my Wife washed my FOB that was in my shorts. I took the FOB out of the washer machine and it still allowed me to lock and unlock my car, even start my car sometimes. I wake up the next morning and it doesn't do anything. When I bought the car a few years back I bought the exact same FOB on ebay. I did this in case I lost it, damaged it etc. My question is, how do I program the new FOB so that it works? Is there a way to fix the FOB that was washed? Is there anyway I can start my car without the FOB? Please help!

Take the wet fob apart with a small phillips screwdriver. Take the battery out. Rinse it all off inside with hot tap water. Sling it around in your hand and blow it dry with your mouth as best you can. Finish drying it with a hair dryer. Install a new battery, put it together, and give it a bloody go!
This process works when you drop the TV flinker or cell phone in the toilet.

    It's a 30 minute procedure to program a Fob, or 2,or 3 or 4.
You have to program them a certain way, do you have a Owner's Manual ?
I would put in New batteries to start, then you know their history.
If you need help programming, "AND" are ready to do it.
Enter into the toolbar above and google search ,Next to Upgrade ON THIS SITE:
"Key Fob Programming STS". The whole procedure is there.
    Good Luck.

Well I did everything it said. Got a new battery. Took my car key, pushed it to the right 5 times and it took me into ac mode for 10 min 3 times. I repeated this 3 times already. So far I am at 90 min and still nothing

Did you get prompts in the DIC (Drivers Information Center) above the steering column ?
It should take you thru all the necessary steps.

Yeah, I get the prompts. Go thought the motions 3 times (10 min each) at then is will say fob 1 but nothing happens. It won't start, won't unlock.

    ----------

Is there anyway I can start the car manually without the fob?

Car should start if you put it in that pocket thing inside the armrest. If you're facing the front of the car, the back right corner inside the armrest has this little shelf that fits about the size of the fob. Put the fob inside, buttons facing the front of the car. Should work.

    ----------

So you still need to have the fob. Can't start without it.

I put the fob in the pouch within the middle console. Will not work. When I try programming the fob, I get all the way to where it says "ready for fob 1" and nothing happens. I have tried starting the car at that point, I have tried hitting the unlock button twice as some websites have told me, tried hitting unlock once as other websites have said. I have even tried to leave it alone when it gets to the "ready for fob 1" and it eventually cuts off. All the directions seem to say the same thing until it says " ready for fob 1" and then no further instructions are given from that point.

So the fob finally crapped out is what it seems like. Try to restore it using dkozloski's thing and then try again.

Re: 2006 Cadillac STS FOB Problems

When the DIC says ready for fob 1, do you insert the fob in the pocket and wait for a beep and it doesn't come? The fob is dead.

Start all over with all fobs out of range and the first one you match, regardless of the number on it will be #1. It's all in the procedure.

This is what I do step by step. (this is with the new FOB with a fresh battery)
    1) Put the key in the door and turn it to the right 5 times (this activates the DIC)
    2) I put the FOB in the center console pocket
    3) Hit the acc button where I have to wait 10 min. ( I repeat this step 3 times)
    4) DIC displays "ready for FOB 1"
    5) After the DIC displays this, I have left it alone and eventually my car will just shut off, I have repeated steps 1-4 then hit the unlock button twice (didn't work), so i repeated steps 1-4, hit the unlock button once and nothing happened.

There has to be something very small that I am missing. Something that's probably staring me right in the face.

Re: 2006 Cadillac STS FOB Problems

Search for another FOB programming procedure, I just checked and
the one I looked at was Vague.Do you have a owners manual to
    check the procedure EXACTLY ?
Do NOT insert FOB in center console , UNTIL the DIC tells you to.
Ready for FOB #1, THEN insert it into the console.
Do NOT test anything until ALL the fobs are programmed.
You must follow it word, and step by step, exactly.
Is the NEW battery GOOD ?
Did you put the battery in the GOOD one, correctly ?
    AND the battery clip ?
It's been a while since I did mine, Do NOT leave the key
in the door, while programming !
    Good Luck.

Sweet Jesus! It finally works! The problem was that I had the fob in the pocket the whole time. I did the usual steps, but this time without the fob in the pocket. When it's says "ready for fob 1" then I Put the fob in the pocket and it picked it up right away. Thank you for all your help.

Re: 2006 Cadillac STS FOB Problems

    Great!

I agree the procedure we posted on this forum is a bit easier to follow than the one in the manual, but Sub's got the key. Assume nothing and do only what's stated.

    Have fun!
