    Sport shift, manual shifting.

When I move the shift lever to the sport shift position the IP shows an s
to the left of the D. If I then move the shift lever forward or backward
nothing seems to happen, the car does not appear to change gears.
If the car shifts should something show on the IP.
I don't feel anything shift and there is no RPM change.

Try it in the driveway. When you slide the lever right, you're in sport mode, which changes shift points and enables the performance liftfoot algorithm, but it's still full auto. When you click up or down, the "sD" in the IP should change to "s1" or "s2" etc....

Just fired it up in the garage. No matter what I do it only shows sD.
Another item on the list of things for my next service appointment.

The dealers service department checked my STS today and found the
shifting mechanism to have a faulty switch. They ordered it from
GM, overnight delivery, and supposedly will call me when it arrives.
When the switch arrives, I am to drop in and they will replace it.

Wow, now there is a part that I have never seen fail on any car forum I have ever been on, and my BMW supposedly used a GM transmission. Really makes you wonder where they source some of this stuff from.

When I made the appointment with the service department they
were unsure what they would do because they claim they haven't
ever had a problem with the sport shifting. So hopefully this is a
    rera exception.

In order to repair the sport shift they had to replace the entire
shifting mechanism. It took four hours.
    Now it works.
