I have a 2006 Cadillac STS 3.6L AWD with 75K miles...Lately I've been noticing that my "Traction Active" light is coming on usually when the car is first cold and when there is no traction control problem that I can feel. I'm also hearing some kind of sound which is hard to describe--like a low "growl", which is sometimes followed by the "Traction Active" light coming on and a loss of power. I noticed that same sound this morning when I turned off the traction control.
Actually, the growling noise doesn't sound mechanical, it sounds electrical--as if something is re-setting. I heard it again this morning as I put the car in drive to go up the street after backing down my driveway. This time, there was no "Traction Active" alert.
And it just happened to me at lunch time when I needed to make a quick move. Gave it gas, heard that sound, then "Tracion Active" and a brief moment of no power, which was a bit unnerving since I needed to move quickly.

Re: Traction Control Issue
Until you can fix it you may be better off disabling TC as much as you can.
Each time you start up just press the button one time to turn it off or press and hold for about 10 seconds to disable TC and Stability Control system.
This should (hopefully) help out for those situations where you need the power until you can fix the issues.
