    I'm about to buy a 2006 STS V6 with 77k mi.

Hi All - I'm Kenny, 68yr old and love Cadillacís. I'm glad I found this forum. The 06 STS V6 I found is loaded and
looks almost new - gold with black, nav, boses, dvd player, sunroof, backup censors.
it has a clean dealer maintained carfax. I am taking it to my mechanic on Fri the 5th and that will decide if I
buy this baby or not. In the past I have had many automobiles and 3 of them were Cadillacs with no issues to
speak of. OK - So what are your thoughts on this year and model I'm looking at.
Glad to be here and thank you very much for any input on this. Kenny

You'll get a lot of "don't buy a V6" on here. Some of them do burn oil and need a ring job. I've never been able to tell what percentage of the V6s have the issue.

Mine's been fine with about 58k miles.

Unfortunately you probably can't tell ahead of time. If it's a dealer, maybe you can get them to give you an extra warranty just for that for a short time (worth a try).

^^^ Get a 30-day warranty from the the seller and put at least a thousand miles on the car, checking the oil twice per tank. If it passes that test and doesn't exhibit worn timing chain symptoms, it's as good as it gets.

Sorry, but IMHO, I'd only own a V8 STS. Many members do report hundreds of thousands of trouble-free miles. More don't. But in all honesty, that is the nature of a car forum. Satisfaction is far less a motivativating factor than the opposite.

Kenny, as a new 06 STS owner of one month - I don't have the expertise of others here who can be very helpful, but I can say my V6 version is for us a great car. It appears mine doesn't have the oil eating issue, is very rewarding to drive, and got 30mpg on the trip I'm on now: Detroit to east coast and back. Mine just turned 100k and other than some previous owner crappily maintained things that I have to correct, it's a keeper for us.

I've had my 05 STS V6 (which is fully loaded as the one you're looking at) since I was 18--now if I could go back and do more research on the oil/ring issue, I would.

My oil consumption isn't as bad as some but it is there. Clocking in at 115K, I wish I would have known about the issue, in addition, then, I didn't even know the V8 was offered in the STS. Anyhow, I got a great deal on it and pulled the trigger 5 years ago--I've highly enjoyed it, however; I'll be candid, I wish I went with the V8.

Hi, I am new to the Cadillac Family! I have always wanted a Cadillac and finally I have one. One month ago I found an 05 STS V8 4 one owner luxury performance top of the line model with 71k. I had it inspected by my mechanic and he gave me the green light. Wow! It has no issues, knock on wood, so far. An awesome ride with horsepower when I want it. I average 16 in the city and 22 on the freeway. I love my car! Good luck!

Hey Kenny and welcome to the forum!! I'm a very proud owner of an 06 STS 4 and I couldn't be more happier!! I purchased mine back in march w/ 69,500 miles....under the hood is the 3.6L v6 and I find it be a very solid engine. I check my oil regularly, usually every other fill-up and I haven't added anymore than a quart so far. So basically every 3 months I've had to add a 1/2 quart. It's not a big deal for me..best of luck to you with your decision.
