Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key

Well first time poster here. I Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key,it has push button start I've been Reading around and I am getting confused. I went and bought a 2008 key fob with a cut key blade. My question is do I need a door (actual key) to program my key fob or do I have to go to the dealer? And how does the actual key
Look like? Thanks for any help!

You have to go to a dealer with car to get new fob programmed.

Only Canadian cars need a dealer. All others just need the right key for the door & the fob reprogramming procedure handles the rest. See the 'Sticky' thread at the top of the forum.

Thank you ill look at it now.

    ----------

So do I have to buy a transponder key or just a regular key? And once I get it I just follow the steps listed
To remove all FOB's then program the new one?

Re: Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key

I see your challenge being getting a locksmith or dealer to cut you a new key. It's a plain cheap blank with no security chip, regardless of what someone may say. (I suppose you could order one based on the VIN with proof of ownership.)

Once you can activate the door lock four times (with all fobs far away) the car forgets all previously matched fobs and begins the new fob matching procedure.

    ----------

You will need an STS fob to start the car. (Wouldn't you want this great feature, anyway?) The new style fobs work fine but come with the wrong blank. A little light machine work fabrcates a much nicer piece for your pocket.

Re: Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key

Tried 3 times goes through the whole thing 30 min then says ready for fob 1 then like 5 min go by and the screen just shuts off and I try to start and it says no fob detected

    ----------

Does it matter that the fob was from a escalade?

Re: Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key

You need an STS fob. Other Cadillacs use different fobs. Either the old style or new style (with metal key inside) will work and are often available on eBay. I posted most of the part numbers not too long ago. The part numbers on the new-style fobs are so small, I can't read them even magnafied under bright light.

The only different between the #1 fob & the #2 fob is really the number on it; either can be matched as #1. Up to 4 can be matched but only the first two are paired to personalized settings or use remote start.

    $50 is a decent price for the new-style fob. I'd expect the old-style ones to be cheaper. Those are: PN-1521 2382 (#2) & PN-1521 2383 (#1).

It is the one that the key comes out of. It just has the pic of the trunk as a SUV instead of a car

    ----------

Also when it says ready for fob1 do I do anything or just leave it alone?

Re: Bought a 2007 sts REPO without a key

Go get a fob that works with the STS. Without one, there's no way to start the car.

Did somebody tell you the fob you have would work?
    They were mistaken, or worse.

    ----------

If it were the right fob, you'd put it in the pocket at the rear of the armreset console with the Cadillac emblem facing forward.

I don't recall the exact procedure, i.e. the button to press, etc. You did find the procedure, right?

    Hey Just...!

    Where are you?

Maybe there's a member nearby willing to loan you a fob.
