MAF sensor needs replaced every 6-9 months?

I have a 2005 sts that was in a bad wreck. After it was repaired about 3 years ago they could not figure out why the check engine light would not turn off. They did a smoke test for leaks, replaced the MAF sensor 3 times, replaced the head gasket and still the light stayed on. I have been driving it every day and the light is on but it runs fine. The only problem is about every 6-9 months it begins idling rough and pinging upon acceleration a mid speeds 35-45 mph. We have had the MAF Sensor replaced 4 times and it is doing it again. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Budd

That sounds like an issue I had when a coil went bad on one of my old cars. That car had one main distributorless coil. Not sure if the coil on wire would do the same thing. Does it ever throw a misfire code?

1BadCadSTS- I searched for the post and could not find it.

Orange57-I have not been told by the technician that there was a misfire code.

    Thanks,

    Buddy
