Not long ago, I posted my positive experience with my 2006 STS with CPO and Zurich extended warrenties. Now, we have the opportunity to consider a different warranty oppotunity. My wife bought her 2007 STS at a little over 1-year old and just over 10,000 miles. She couldn't get a CPO because it began life as a Hertz rental but she could add 3 years of coverage from Zurich for $2,000. Prices were so good back in 2008, we did it.
This warranty is about to expire and we are wondering what to do. Her car has been more reliable than mine. In fact, the warranty has not quite paid for itself, coming up $40 short. She has had a few check engine soon lights, some trouble with control arms and a shifter replacement. It's a 2007 RWD 6-speed w/o MRC < 70,000 miles.
Since we've had good experience with the dealer & Zurich, she checked that price first. Surprising to us, they offered a 3 year, 45,000 miles powertrain warranty for $2,607. Comprehensive was $4,983. They didn't want to negotiate at all.
So we are looking. My wife found a company called Direct Buy Warrenty while search for Warrenty Direct. They had a good quote but I don't think it's as good as it looks. Any good suggestions?
Costco is venturing into this,,, give 'em a look. My feeling is, with their customer friendly company attitude, they would be less "dictatorial & arbitrary" when it came repairs. I had Warranty Direct, they were very fair with me, we both made concessions at times though (they gave the dealer 4K for Head Gaskets on my '97) but they had Hard & Fast Rules they could NOT be flexible with. I think those negotiations would be a different experience with a company where Costco was involved.
