    Heated Steering Wheel

I walked out to my car this morning and noticed that my heated steering wheel isn't working. No LED or anything. Seats still heat OK. Worked fine last night.

    Any thoughts?

IF you need a new steering wheel, which is usually the case......You're screwed. GM no longer has any stock of these and nobody makes an aftermarket.

Is there any way to know for sure? Are there fuses that control this?

    Re: Heated Steering Wheel

Steering wheel heater failure is a common problem requiring replacement of the entire wheel. Mine failed a couple of years ago and was replaced under warranty. Even back then, I was lucky that the dealer found one although it took over two months. New, they used to cost north of $900 if I recall. The problem with used ones on ebay or in a salvage yard is that the heater probably doesn't work on the majority, if not of them. Good luck.

    Re: Heated Steering Wheel

There is a fuse in (as I recall) the left rear fuse block. Probably not the problem, but worth checking. If the steering wheel is the problem, it's still worth calling your dealership with your VIN to see if one is available. People keep saying that steering wheels aren't available any more for the STS and this simply isn't true. I can't speak for every car/model year, but I checked with my dealer about a month ago and both heated steering wheel options for my car are available from GM's Lansing warehouse.

Agreed, but the common message in many threads blankets the STS heated steering wheels in general. Having a look around, it appears that there may still be an ebony platinum edition (N31) still available for 2007. It also appears there may be a few for 05-06 in ebony and cashmere (depending on options).

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if a handy individual working together with the local shoe cobbler could fix these heated steering wheels that fail.

I thought they were supposed to have parts available for 10 years after the car was manufactured?

    Re: Heated Steering Wheel

I had my 07 wheel replaced last year under extended warranty. It took about 3 months to get a new one but they are now available again.

This car in general has been a piece of work! I got it just now and noticed that all of the lights on the right-hand side of the wheel are out. When it rains, it pours with this car.

    Re: Heated Steering Wheel

I took my '08 in just last month for this problem (and a couple other CPO warranty issues) and they had the heated steering wheel in stock! Fixed the same day...

That's because in Georgia every car has a heated steering wheel 9 months out of the year.
