Dead battery could cause loss all your seat preferences, mirror settings, sport or touring settings, etc. I would have had them keep the original radio connected remotely.

There are also better kits in my opinion and the installer should have given you all the options. I prefer the look of this one:

That would be great. I have been searching for a shop willing to do the work and no one wants to touch it without a harness.

Where did you find this kit? The only one I seem to find is the one the OP has.

I did see that kit but it seemed to be a lower quality then the metra. Its a Scosche cadillac sts double din. I would like to see someone try that out because if it looks better I can easily switch.

Any word on what harness they used to hook the aftermarket up? Is it the GMOS-13?

Yes the harness I used was the GMOS-13 I found it the cheapest on sonicelectronix.com. Everything hooks up pretty simple with it.

Like someone else said, it's great to know that aftermarket options exist, if your nav just decides to bite the dust which may not be too remote a possibility if you plan on owning this car for a long time.

Our Nav from 2005 is also kinda showing its age in other ways - it's pretty slow, the touch screen (resistive I guess) requires a lot of mashing, the screen could be better, and there's the annoying lockout. I can't believe things haven't improved in the past 7 years.

One thing I've considered is to custom mount a tablet in that area. I mean, they do just about everything you ever need and then some. Then if you ever needed to change settings, well the original is just behind it.

Anyway, thanks to the OP for sharing.

One setting I repeatly use is in the Config screen. I press the Exit and the seat goes back and the steering wheel goes up, the same as when I turn the engine off and open the door. However I do this when the engine is running and I need to get out for some reason and do not want to turn the engine off. When I get back in I press the driver #1 setting (there are 2) and the seat and wheel returns. I would miss this feature with an after-market receiver.

I definitely like the look of the OP's installation, it's a different look but IMO its a good one. I have a top of the line Kenwood unit with Nav and it will go with me to my next car. I'm currently looking for an STS and I've only test driven one. The Bose system in it sounded terrible. I don't kow if the sound was correct or if there was something wrong. Definitely sounded like the later. I had the Bose system in my previous model Seville and it sounded fantastic.
