Heated Steering Wheel Replacemnt - Was Informed Part No Longer Available!

The heat on my heated steering wheel stopped working a few month back. I took in in for repair and they informed me they needed to order the part. After proximately 6 weeks of waiting, I called today and was informed that a new steering wheel is no longer available and isn't being made. The service rep informed me that who ever is manufacturing them these days may manufacture a "run" of steering wheels at some time in the future. Without getting to involved in a conversation with my service rep, the best he would offer was that at any time in the future a new steering wheel becomes available, they would honor the cpo. I figured before I continued with any conversations regarding this, I'd do my homework and get some info from the folks here.

I hope Chris from Rippy can shed some light on the subject. Chris?

You may have missed some of the details of my dilemma. The car is under a CPO warranty. And apparently, the dealer only goes through their official channels for parts. At this point in time, the part is not available (out of stock) and is no longer being manufactured.

If you have a dealer that can get one, please share the dealership with me.

O...I didnt miss that...when mine was under CPO mine went out too.,.....im over on miles, but at the time it was still CPO and will be honored....There is a brand new one on Ebay that I had the dealer look at....he said he would get it for me....the only diff is mine is black leather and the one there is beige leather.....but its heated...the only other difference is the far right button on my wheel has 1-6 on it...and this one doesnt....but I am pretty sure its the same function....im kinda patiently waiting Im kinda thinking the brown leather with the black center(airbag) might look cool....but as long as you had it fail under your CPO..you can still have the CPO expire and they will honor it....the other thing the dealer told me is that GM would pay for it...(its like 750bucks or something)...so I think I have a bad CV joint...im almost just gonna say well you can just replace the CV and call it even and I will find a used one eventually with low miles....there is a place by me called schrams auto...they get LOW, LOW mile wrecked vehicles all the time......and the guy is gonna call me next time they get a black wheel. O..ya one more thing...just FYI there are about 1,000 of these across the COUNTRY on BACKORDER according to my dealer.....

Re: Heated Steering Wheel Replacemnt - Was Informed Part No Longer Available!

The 2005-07 steering wheels vary quite a bit depending upon option set (not the greatest idea.) I foresee this becoming common with many STS parts. Specialty parts suppliers will only appear when there's enough demand.

For those with warranty coverage, make sure to get your claims registered before it expires. They may not want to honor those claims but they are valid.
