    2012 Navigation Disc

I just received my disc today. Here are some of the things I found...
    • This is now a single DVD, not a two disc set.
    • The 2011 disc would route me to a hospital in the US, 280 miles away (as the closest facility). This is fixed.
    • When using the emergency function to locate a hospital, it now lists ONLY hospitals. The 2010 disc also listed clinics, etc.
    • I have not found voice recognition to be improved.
    • It does seem that there is improved speed when entering destinations.
    • I still have to form an opinion on searching POI's.
    • When routing to my GM dealer, the system has both their new and old location. Regardless of which I select, it routes me to the old site. Obviously still a few data inconsistences.
    • There are still GM dealerships that have been out of business for 2-3 years in the search listing. Other POI's I can understand if updated information had not been provided, but I figured GM would have been all over this for their dealers.

I have yet to drive around and see what roads in my area have been updated.

    Re: 2012 Navigation Disc

Is there still no POI data for Alaska? i.e.,Can you enter an Alaska address? On my 2011 disc it shows the nearest emergency facilities to be in Canada, 600 miles away in another country.

That answers my question. There is still no POI data on the disk for Alaska. What the hell. We're used to being treated like second class citizens. People who should know better still ask us all kinds of stupid questions like:What kind of money do you use? Do we live in igloos? Is the snow on the ground year around? For years there wasn't even Alaska map data on the NAV disk even though there was complete coverage for Canada.

    Re: 2012 Navigation Disc

I've had all the igloo and dog sled questions as well. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that don't choose to educate themselves. No offence to my American friends, but the US school system and television networks don't really do much to help this. You can watch a lot of news in the US and seldom hear about anything that occurs in Canada. A good friend of mine has been living in the US for the past 15 years and his kids are taught very little about the world beyone the US borders.

    Getting back on topic...

I'm sure this all comes down to a question of economics for GM. Map data is absolutely available for Alaska. The question is does GM have a big enough customer base in AK to justify the additional cost to purchase this from the map data providers. I don't know what the licence agreement is between GM and the provider, but since it would be present on every DVD, this would either decrease profit margins by pushing the cost of each disc up or cost the end user more with the potential of decreasing sales or increasing piracy.

    Re: 2012 Navigation Disc

As a workaround I use a DeLorme map program on my laptop to locate my destination, manually scroll the NAV to where I want to go, and place a waypoint. About the only place I need it anyway is when my destination is in Anchorage.

Is that for all years RWD STS? and is it the PN to use with 800-GMNAVDISC (or whatever the # or web site is) ???

Looks like yes it's for multiple year RWD STSs and the gmnavdisc site is the one to use.

There is still no 2012 disc for CTSs available yet (thought t'd get both, but i guess not)...

    Re: 2012 Navigation Disc

The GM Nav Disc site does not list a 2012 version for the 2005-06 STS. I know there were some differences with nav radios in these years that might account for this. The current STS disc for 2012 is for any 2007 or newer.

The dealer took my part number of my map disc, said it was a GM "bulletin", ordered the update disc. It's here and they're doing the update Monday morning for free. I have the 2012 map disc.
