JL9 to JE5 swap a NO GO!! UGHHH

I just received my JE5 rotors and brake pads that I purchased online. It seems that no one on here has actually done the swap or I just couldn't find it but I read on here that it was as simple as just replacing the rotors and brake pads. I just tried installing and it seems as though the bracket on the JL9 system that the caliper bolts into is not large enough to fit over the JE5 rotors. The caliper itself looks okay but its just that bracket. Does anyone know if i can simply replace that bracket with the JE5 one or do I just have to stick with the JL9 setup? Thanks in advance

The rotors are larger, you will need the JE5 caliper. It appears that the knuckle that it mounts to is the same part number. It looks like the rear may be the same tho.

Part numbers for the JE5 calipers: Looks like you can get them for a touch over $100 apiece.

The caliper doesn't come with the bracket and I would need both the caliper and bracket to do the swap and that's over $300 for just the front

Cool Re: JL9 to JE5 swap a NO GO!! UGHHH

What are you trying to do ?There are a lot of experts here to help you.
I have a Standard STS, and the Front brakes are two piston, Delco has a 4 piston
caliper available for this installation, If Needed, I can give you the Delco numbers.
Have fun, keep us in tune what you are doing,so we can also learn. Thanks
AnderbrA above looks like the numbers I have !

I was trying to upgrade my standard JL9 brakes to JE5 drilled/slotted rotors and pads. I ordered a set of 4 online with brake pads and I just received them today. I went to install them and the caliper bracket that holds the caliper in place for the JL9 does not fit over the JE5 rotors. The stealership wants about $95 a piece for the JE5 brackets but I was told that I would also have to change the calipers too and they are a little over $100 each. I saw the brackets online for about $55 each but I dont want to spend another $600 doing this upgrade. I unfortunately had to pay $70 in shipping and restocking fees for this failed upgrade. Im a little disappointed that I have to stick with the JL9 setup. Thanks for the help guys

why would you even attempt this, anyone with any set of brake sense should know they couldnt do this. hell if i get J56 (brembo) pads and rotors I must be able to do a full V spec brake upgrade right? really common now... The improved braking of the JE5 over the JL9 is the larger rotor which pushs the caliper out further. How do you think they achieved that? Clearly with a larger abutment bracket which sets the even larger JE5 caliper out further to clear that bigger JE5 rotor....

I have put drilled and slotted rotors on my standard brakes,
with what was standard rotors, and used the standard calipers.

It appears that the knuckle is the same for both. You will need the entire brake setup to make this work. Rotor and all caliper hardware. Your best bet is to find a donor vehicle from a junkyard IMO or return your purchase and get the JL9 setup.

IMHO, the JL9 feels inadequate after getting acustomed to driving an STS with the JE5.

I ought to test-drive a STS-V. I wouldn't want to give up ACC, but it would be fun!

First of all, instead of being a forum prick, why don't you just offer some helpful advice? There are so many people like you on this forum that do nothing but negatively criticize what others are doing or trying to do with their cars. Obviously things are sometimes going to be trial and error for some people but its the fact that people are trying to modify or customize their cars in their own ways because they don't make many mods for these cars. Secondly, I attempted this because obviously I wanted better braking performance. I bought a couple of parts for the swap but obviously just didn't pick up everything that I needed. There isn't a step by step guide to doing this swap so maybe you should make one since you know so much about it. Sorry if I don't see the harm in that and understand why you need to be such a smartass. But its okay because its not going to ruin my day and I know just how tough everyone can be over a keyboard. But to the others with actual helpful comments and remarks, I appreciate it and thank you.

I repurchased drilled and slotted jl9 rotors. Did you feel a difference in the standard and new drilled/slotted? Thanks

Well with the right help, it can be done personally. Its not brain surgery but like I said before its trial and error and when things don't fit then you buy the parts that do or you go back to stock. Thanks for your reply though

I haven't driven an STS with the JE5 but I hear from everyone that has that its a total transformation and no one ever wants to go back down to JL9. I am considering selling my car in the future and test driving an STS-V. If that goes as planned, I wouldn't need any more brake swaps lol
