A very good start would be to read the manual.

I answer your question by asking a far better one....
How do you have a 2010 STS-V when production ended in 2009 and there is no model year 2010 STS-V...

Do you have a destination entered? If so, go into config and make sure the audio isn't turned off. Many members find the Nav hard to understand. I don't think so but I read manuals.

Check the 'Read This First' thread at the top of the thread listing for a list of great tips. If you don't have the Nav Manual (separate from the owners manual) get one. I think there are links to PDF's of the manuals in that thread.

Your Garmin is actually a better Nav system in every way than the factory in stalled system in the STS

I don't even use mine..I bought a Tom Tom for $109 last year and store it in the STS and use it if I have the need to use Nav

I mastered my navi and now I love it. At first it was a little complicated but the more I used it the more I liked it and some features will let you use while the car is in motion...yea thats right some you can use while in motion but not gonna tell.

The nav in the sts is more complicated to use than a garmin, but once you get used to it..... I think it's much better than the garmin..... or let me say.... I like it better than my garmin.

You must have a very OLD Garmin...I have a Garmin and a Tom Tom..that are about 1and 2 years old respectively..and they both work better and are more intuitive than the STS's Nav

I put the STS Nav system right there with its voice command system

If you like one you will likely like the other

I use a compass and the stars to figure out my coordinates. You're a bunch of amateurs.

STS Nav is complicated at first, but reading the manual and playing with it for a while and each time using it more and more.
    I love it.

    Re: STS navigation

I have the factory Nav and I also had a Garmin Nuvi. Each time I tried the Nav I gave up, until my Garmin died. Forced to use the Nav, I tried a little harder and lo and behold, it works pretty good. The only thing I don't like is, it won't say the street names like the Garmin did. Rather than in 200 feet turn right on Main Street, it just says in 200 feet turn right. It does the job but requires some effort at first. All that being said I had ordered a Garmin 3790 LMT and it is simply amazing but is 6 or 7 years newer technology and is portable.

    Re: STS navigation

I think everyone agrees the STS nav is a PITA to learn. Why is that? Poor enginering. I have a probably 10 y/o Garmin... retailed for $1,300 so it's old.........never been updated (I use it only in rentals) and it is still better then the STS hands down.

BUT I've been looking at BMW 7's and their systems are by far the worse to understand. I Drive!!! What a crock....... 9 clicks to set a radio station.
