    You can pay for depreciation or pay for repairs. Either way, you pay.

    I'd rather pay for repairs. I can at least turn a wrench once in a while and save on repairs.

    That methodology has two major issues
    1. depreciation is typically more than the cost of repairs
    2. Cars that have high depreciation typically have more repairs

    so if you don't care about putting lipstick on the proverbial pig..ie..investing as much or more than the car is worth in repairs.... you should be golden
