    Re: Found A STS

Okay...a quick update...I flew down to Phoenix on Sunday night and picked up the car Monday morning. I headed out about 11am and finally got home Tuesday evening about 630pm. What an AWESOME highway car this is!! And the ACC/HUD makes it even more so. The icing on the cake was the XM radio. This was the best 1500 mile drive I have ever undertaken. I only had one issue the whole way...shortly after starting out at a rest area I was getting random DIC alerts...hood ajar, service security system...I checked the battery volts and it read 12.9. I drove away thinking the battery just needed charging, and never had another problem. Well, I took a big rock in the windshield and will have to get it replaced, but no other mechanical issues. Over all I am very happy with my purchase.

Congrats!!! Sorry to hear about the windshield. I believe that they are special for the HUD. I read somewhere that they make sure there is no waviness and /or a coating so that it appears better.

Right after I got mine I took it from Chicago to northern Arkansas, down all the back road twisties, with my MRC on the "Performance" setting... what a riot!

    Re: Found A STS

Thanks! I was just wondering if the HUD windshield is different. I'll give my local stealer a call and see what they say.

***EDIT*** The dealer parts guy says there is a difference if the car has either Rainsense or HUD. I'll call my favorite glass shop and make sure they can get the correct glass.

On another note, I can't believe how much more powerful this car is compared to my 2000 STS. The difference is incredible and much more than I expected. I'm glad I decided on the RWD over the AWD car.

Why not have the dealer do it. You insurance should pay for it less your comprehensive deductible and you'll be sure they use the correct glass.

The dealer said they subcontract glass work to a glass shop.

    Re: Found A STS

A tip on the hood ajar message: There is a TSB on this, but Cadillac probably won't fix it for you for free. Early 2005s had a hood latch that was subject to failure. There is a redesigned part. I ordered one for about $100 and replaced it myself. It's only three bolts. Avoid dropping them into the inside of the beast, and you'll be done in 20 minutes. This could be related to your security system messages -- the car thinks the hood is open. The car can suddenly change its belief about hood status without provocation. i.e., car is parked for hours and suddenly it senses hood open. Well, then it will sound the alarm. So you might want to fix this before it happens in the middle of the night. Ask me how I know.

    Re: Found A STS

Did the rock crack or just chip your windshield? Is repair an option? The HUD calls for a special windshield. A regular one would probably work but not as good as OEM.

Thanks for the hood latch tip. Do they go bad after all this time?

As for the crack, it made a bullseye with some rays from the center. Total size about the same as a quarter. I'm going to take it and see if it can be fixed, it might be a little too big though.

Sounds like it may be repairable. If it can be, most insurance will pay and waive any deductible.

Yup. Mine was fine for ~5 years and acted up a couple months ago.

Glad that car went to a good home. It must be the one I test drove over the weekend.

Just a note, the front tires were cupped on the inside tread and had considerable wear when compared to the outside tread. Hopefull they replaced the tires, but I would suggest getting the alignment/front suspension checked out.

Other than that, the car was a blast to drive!
