2005 Caddy STS Remote Start Issue

    Please help!

I work with a large car retailer here in Virginia, and I sold a gentleman a 2005 Cadillac STS recently. During the sale, we noticed that the factory remote start system was not working through the key faub. I read through the owner's manual, and even followed the prompts to turn on the remote start system through the personalization settings. When we tried again, we hit the lock button, then immediately pressed and held the remote start button until the parking lights blinked. According to the manual, at this point, the car should start. It does not. Does anyone have any additional advice. This gentleman would like to have his starter figured out by the summer. Thanks in advance!

Only guess I could make is being a used car maybe the fob need resychronized. There is a section in the manual that covers this.

Try holding the lock button down for 5 seconds even after it lights, then push and hold the start button a few seconds after the second light.

Check to see if you have any codes on the car. I know my remote starter was automatically disabled after the car threw a code with a check engine light. The weird thing is the light went out on its own but the remote starter remained inactive. So maybe at some point there was a check engine light on?

Furthermore when I called Onstar to check what the light meant, they made reference the code activated "limp mode" therefor disabling the remote starter to protect the car.

You have to press the lock button twice then the start button.
Make sure your doing that, from your description it sounds like your pressing lock once then the start.

    Page 2-9 05 STS manual:

/(Remote Start): To start the vehicle using the
remote start feature, do the following:
    1. Aim the remote keyless access transmitter at
    the vehicle.
    2. Press the transmitter’s lock button, release it and
then immediately press and hold the transmitter’s
remote start button for at least two seconds or until
the vehicle’s turn signal lamps flash. The vehicle’s
    doors will be locked.
    3. When the vehicle starts, the parking lamps will turn
on and remain on while the vehicle is running.
    4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 while the engine is still
running to add 10 minutes of engine running.

I have an 05, can guarantee you only need to push lock once.

    In any event. If your lights come on but the car does not start check the following;

    Any check engine lights?
    Any wanrings lights?
Any codes stored in ECU? (Will need code scanner to get in and check/clear)
Valet mode switch in glove box on?
    Any doors/trunk open?
Will also shut off or prevent remote start if low on gas.

Make sure the fob is programmed as 1 or 2. If it is 3 or 4 it won't be able to activate remort start.
