Unhappy Hood Ajar and Service Theft System

    05 STS V8

Ok, weird thing here. Took and got the oil changed on the car. She went to pick the kids up right after the oil change, and then realized she left her FOB at the oil changing place. She shut the car off and then realized it, it prompted her to turn off or start, so she started it back up so she could get back home. The next day, my wife is sleeping, and the alarm starts going off. She runs out, no one there, no door open, car still locked, nothing wrong. Later on she goes out and it puts these messages:

    HOOD AJAR
    SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM

Now, I read somewhere that the remote start won't work if the hood is open, so that explains my last issue. If the car things the hood is AJAR, then it won't work. But why would this all of a sudden start?!?!? Any clues?

I was thinking of disconnecting the battery for about 5 minutes to let things reset and see if it still happens, but wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would guess the oil change guys jacked up the hood switch (not sure where its located) and it has nothing to do with leaving the FOB. Good luck, that's why I change my own oil - trust no one.

That's kinda what I thought, but would that mess us the Theft Deterrent at the same time? Is that link into it just like the doors are?

Yes, the hood and trunk are alarmed just like the doors. When everything is working right, if you lock the car with the hood or trunk open, you will see the alarm light in the instrument cluster flash until you close the hood or trunk.

Ok, cool. I'll have to get a hood sensor from Caddy Dealer and hope it's easy to replace!

    Thanks Carter.

    Take a look at this:

Looks like this might be a known problem and it sounds like the switch is built into the latch.

Awesome, maybe a free fix! Sweet. Thanks for finding that man! I'm going to call Cadillac now to have them search on my VIN # to see if this has been performed already. Thanks again!

Re: Hood Ajar and Service Theft System

BTW, if you end up doing it yourself, I'm seeing prices all over the place for the latch. Anywhere from $32 to $112.

This is what I got for the part number for the latch:

Part number 15785120 was superseded by part number 25778967.

But do your own research, I can't guarantee that's right and that it includes the switch.

Ya, I just called my local dealer and it's $115 at the dealer. Are the cheaper ones still GM or are they an OEM replacement and still work as well?

Re: Hood Ajar and Service Theft System

I was just checking random parts places on the Web, so I don't know if they were OEM or not.

One other thought; before you buy it, make sure the oil guys didn't just knock the connector off or break a wire.

I had the same problem. Dealer replace hood latch, no problems after that. Wow, fixed first time ! ( but they did have to order the part )

Yes, that's why I ordered it online, plus it was only $70 where I got it from compared to $115. I also ordered the front seal for the hood, and the push start button. Looks like I'll have some intimate time with the STS once they come in LoL!
