I highly recommend The Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD to experience the DTS surround sound at it's best in the STS. Especially the DTS audio only track "Seven Bridges Road".

Agree on the Eagles disc, very nice. I also have Heart & Yes discs that I bought just to put Bose through its paces. Eagle disc definitely the best of the three.

cts has bose and sts has bose and i had a dts(2000 real dts lol) with bose all sounded good but my sts sounds way better than any oem system i ever heard oh and i had a 2000 sls with bose too but 2006 bose is clear and plays deep and mid bass with ease. just wish my interior looked like the last fwd sts with more wood and softer dash pieces

    Old thread, but I'll bite...

By far this is THE BEST OEM system I have ever heard. Mid and highs are excellent. Bass is on the better side of good. Channel separation is excellent. Directional ques are superb, I really hear the voice in the center and other instruments in the appropriate left or right speaker.

I tend to think Bose too is overrated, but this is the first car I've had where I didn't rip out the system as soon as I got it home. For budget car audio I usually stick with Infinity or Pioneer, but I had a Mitsubishi with an Infinity OEM system and it was very average. Now I could probably build a better sounding system with MB Quarts, a decent sub, amps, and deck, but it would probably cost me $3,000 or more.

Quite pleased. Sure beats the Bose in my old 92 STS.

While not perfect, for an OEM system, it's pretty good.

I'm still wondering where the 15th driver is, however. Three on the dash, four in the doors, four in the seats, three on the parcel shelf. That's 14.

15th speaker is a center for the passingers in the rear seat and is located in the back of the center console.

I have an '06 STS with the 15 speaker Bose system and am not satisfied with it. If it had a 5 band equilizer I might be able to correct the issue that I have. I think it needs a 4khz adjustment. Some songs produce an annoing (cheap sounding) ringing in this range. I had a '97 Deville with the top end Delco system. On long trips I would crank this system for hours and thoughly enjoy it. When I got this STS I was looking forward to enjoying this "Bose" system in the same way. After several long trips, I just had to conclude that it was an inferior sounding system.

Thanks! I'd have never found that one!

Yeah, Bose systems, of all types, have what I feel is a "processed" sound, though this one is nowhere near as bad as most. I search for very natural sounding sytems. My house system, for example. I have two sets of main speakers. Definitive Technology towers (and center/rears) for movies. For music, though, a pair of Signet SL-100's, which are incredibly natural sounding, neutral, and image like you would not believe.

Yes, the Signet's are from the late-80's. Fine by me, they sound incredible to my ears.

One thing I like about the STS's Bose system is the "driver" setting for balance/fade. Saved me hours tweaking it.

Far and away the best oem system i've ever listened to. The only thing I would like is slightly stronger rear subwoofer performance. More for imaging than anything else.

I tried the Eagles CD and I think it sounds amazing. Of course my hearing is not so good considering I'm pushing 70 and after two tours in Viet Nam.

Thank you for your service! Did you play the "Seven Bridges Road" track? It is a challenge to play but worth every minute. You have to make sure when the disc starts that you pick audio setup and select "DTS". Then when the menu comes up pick "DTS audio track only - Seven Bridges Road" or something to that effect...I'm at work and the disc is at home. Truly an amazing track with individual voices from different areas of the car.

Re: Your Cadillac STS Bose Audio System Rating

I am attempting to improve the sound of my system (Bose 15 speaker). What I have discovered so far is that Bose has two little 2 inch speakers up front in the corners that have to produce all the high end and some midrange. I've removed these speakers and have been comparing them to others on my kitchen table. What I have found is there is nothing majic about this little 2 inch speaker just because it has "BOSE" stamped on the back of it. It is the only thing in the car to produce high end frequencys and it doesn't do a good job of it. I have replaced these speakers with 1 inch soft dome tweeters and it has made a huge difference in the high end sound. The only problem is Bose sends midrange to these speakers as well and a tweeter alone can't handle those frequencies. And, there is no way to send the midrange to the doors either. They are self powered subwoofers. At this point, even without the midrange sound it still sounds much better than it did before. It actually sounds more like the high end system now that it was hyped to be. Why Bose uses those chinsey 2 inch speakers for all the high end is a mistrery. Basically, that is just a Bose trademark because they use it in all their systems. I'm sure they have all kinds of lab data that shows those speakers are producing the high frequencies. The only problem is they sound like crap compared to an actual tweeter producing those same frequencies.

I have the 15 speaker system, and, every time I listen to the system I love it. I wish I had more DTS content because that is when it really comes alive. Unbelievable
