    Pda smartphone bluetooth + sts

i was wondering, since the sts has bluetooth capabilities and can connect wirelessly with the phone and transfer contacts and whatnot, is there a way to wirelessly stream music via bluetooth from pda's (palm treos, blackberrys, etc) to the cadillac sts equipped w. nav/bluetooth?

no, not yet. Bluetooth is wireless network technology made up of several different subsets of rules called 'profiles'. Each profile covers a different common usage of the underlying Bluetooth technology.

For example, the A2DP profile is designed for high quality stereo audio. Therefore wireless headphones support the A2DP profile, but not VDP profile which supports video transfers.

Telephones usually support the HSP (Headset) and/or HFP (Hands free) profiles for use with headsets. These support low quality mono audio best suited for phones and a microphone for 2-way communication.

Cadillac bluetooth (through 2010, as far as I know) only support the HSP/HFP profiles. So when your music player wants to stream music over Bluetooth, the STS doesn't know how to listen. This will probably change in future car models as Bluetooth becomes a more entrenched consumer technology, but updating existing installed systems - even though it's just a software update - is highly unlikely.

Any possibility of an available Bluetooth software update for a 2005 STS that adds support for A2DP?

I bought an adapter off of amazon to make it work. 15 bucks after shipping. Its plugged into my RCA in the center console with a y-cable. Works flawlessly

No entries since 2010. Are there any new advances? I have a 2009 STS4 and I'd love to stream audio!

iSimple Audio Gateway with BT module... it adds A2DP but its probably not any more 'advanced' than the uPAC-STS + BlueStar was.

Don't think they make a control with built in Bluetooth for the STS.

The ISBT21 is the isimple BT module. I've got it but it doesn't work the best. I always have to power cycle my radio each time I want to use it even if the last thing I used was the BT module. Then about half the time I have to redo the pairing process between it and my phone.
It allows track skip / pause but only displays "streaming" on the NAV unit yet is able to show caller info ...

    Blustar

    Yup I have it too.

They make a new interface which is the blustar with the gateway all in one but they claim it does not work with the STS. I was asking as what you stated seemed to imply they were now making it with them combined for the STS as they do for other GM models.

Re: Pda smartphone bluetooth + sts

Mikey, this is what I installed in 05 STS4: http://www.isimplesolutions.com/talk....html#features I have 107.7 preset and my phone syncs with the transit vice the car. I can stream music and make/take calls (has its own mic I installed by the rear view). I nice feature is the song skip which is wired to a small switch (green phone icon in the link) which is mounted between my traction control and hazards buttons on the center console.

The only problem I had with install was the fact there is NO switched 12VDC present so it does not work when the car is off or in accessory.
