41 in May. 21 this week. Somehow that adds up to 58.
I think autonews needs some addition lessons.
Noticed that SRX production was down to 800 and CTS production was down to 1200.
The addition of the STS into the assembly line has slowed things down. Just like the CTS production was slowed down when the SRX was added.

Cadillac will be incredibly profitable for GM with so much production capabilty at one plant, and with the trucks being built in Mexico where wages are low.

Maybe some were Pilot vehicles not for sale.
These will probably be driven by executives then sold
    6 months later.

Re: '05 STS Production Scheduled for June 1st.

"Actual" Production doesn't begin for some time. The first production vehicles are demo's. Each dealership get's one or two, usually a V6 and a V8. Ours are being produced the week of July 26th and Aug 2nd. Actual retail production does not start until after that.

That's not to say that dealers won't sell their demo's, but for FYI, the dealer get's special incentives if they put their demos into service for 6 months...

Production is scheduled to begin June 21st. Vehicles should be available by late August.

Re: '05 STS Production Scheduled for June 1st.

According to the June 6th issue of Automotive News, GM announced it had begun regular production of the 2005 STS at the Grand River plant. This would bear-out the June 1st time frame. The same item also noted that 41 pre-production units were built in May. This would see arrival of the first cars at dealers in about 60-70 days.

Okay, let's revist this again. I'm just trying to be accurate in these statements.

    1) "Estimated shipment calculation was canceled for June on the 2005 STS. Estimated shipments will be calculated for July when production begins."

    2) "STS - Controlled Allocation loaded as Estimated Shipments based on Marketing Team`s launch strategy for start-up July 19 - August 15"

The fact that the statement above says "production begins June 21st" but yet "vehicles should be available by late August" really doesn't make sense. If a vehicle is produced the week of June 21st, it could actually be on lots by the end of that month (some dealers around the plant will get a vehicle 1-2 days after it's built)! It does not take 2 months to produce and ship a car. The statement above indicates the RCC dealer allocations that are produced first, then the demos, then the retail units.

I'd go off of the second part of the statement ("Vehicles should be available by late August"), not the first part.

Where do you get the 60-70 days? GM doesn't sit on vehicles like that, they produce and ship. The first runs of STSs are show cars, exec cars, RCC dealer allocations, etc. We receive units approx. 10 days after they are built, and some dealers close to the plant receive them 1-2 days. A car produced the week of June 1st isn't going to take till August to get here. If an STS had been produced the week of June 1st, it would already be in route to the dealership.

There hasn't been a single dealer-ordered STS produced OR scheduled for production yet. Every STS in the order system has a code of 3000 or 3100. This is the lowest code of production a car can have. It means "Order accepted by production control". A couple V8 models have hit the 3100 "Available to Sequence" code which is the next step, but still not ready to be produced.

ALL of these vehicles are intended demo orders, and no dealer that I can see has more than a total of 2 V8s or V6s even in the complete system. That's it, total.

All I am trying to say is that "Production begins" is not what you are expecting. Production is going to be slow, spread out, and I wouldn't expect actual, normal production until late August. That has been explained to dealers since launch, that they would get 1-3 units to start with, and then regular ordering would begin.

If you are planning to order and STS or watching for decent inventories, you have some waiting to do. I think it's fair to make sure that people know this.

This isn't abnormal either. This occured with the CTS and the SRX. The plant spent about 2 months producing various allocated units to include demo's, then began retail, full production. In both cases dealers received 1-2 demo units to show for about a month to ramp up orders, than full production began. It's the same with the STS.

Re: '05 STS Production Scheduled for June 1st.

Vehicles are not produced then shipped. There are new quality assurance guidelines that need to be followed. Vehicles are tested and tested over again to assure that the line is producing vehicles according to the quality standards. You never know: GM may sit on these cars considering that they are having issues with suppliers. I would bite my tongue if I were you. There may be models that were produced, but these are not retail units. These are probably test vehicles and some that will be placed on training circuit as well as in stables for the up coming autoshows.
