Nav Screen Diagnostic Mode Instructions

Here are the instructions for getting into the diagnostic mode of the STS and STS-V navigation/audio/video system.

Use at your own risk...

Press the "MENU" button while in the navigation mode.

Next to the header, press and hold in the center of the screen as shown for about 5-7 seconds.

When the keypad appears, enter "9448" and then press "OK".

You will then be presented with 2 pages of options.

This should answer any questions that there is a gyro on board because on this screen you can read the signals from it.

How comfortable does it make you feel about our government when 12 satellites can see you inside your garage?

The hard switch test is pretty cool.

The color adjustment screen.

There are more as well. I would suggest being especially careful with "Ship Mode" and the touch screen calibration.

No, I did not find the code for unlocking DVD view while out of park or the one to allow my passenger to imput stuff while driving.

There is only a "RESET" button in this mode. I'm sure there are other modes available but with a 6 digit pin available, it could take years to try them all.

In the manual check there is "microphone test"...

Is there anyway i can increase the sensetivity of the MIC ?? ... coz when talkin through the bluetooth, person on the other side cannot easily hear me... i have to shout

Nice find. I went through most of the menus and saw nothing too exciting. However, it give me hope that there is a hidden soft button to get into the programming to unlock those "features" we all want. Every morning I spend a few extra minutes in the car pressing on different parts of the various screens. Hopefully one of these days something will appear. Then of course the real trick will be to hack the pin.

they have to have a gyro test feature hidden somewhere if the exact voltage could be found at rest maybe it (the gyro) could be bypassed or if we are lucky shut off.

The keypad will accept 6 digits so I think guessing or sequencing through the possible combinations is not a plausible project.

It's pretty amazing that we have not been able to find the access codes or the documentation somewhere. I don't think that the Department of Defense has this kind of security on the launch codes for the nuclear arsenal!

has anyone looked in the factory cadillac STS service manual for this information? how else would a caddie tech know or learn this info?

Caddie techs do not repair the nav radio system. They simply exchange them with a repair facility. There are some simple troubleshooting procedures to identify if the nav unit is defective. There is nothing in the FSM regarding schematics or repair to the actual nav unit.
