Question STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

Remove this ad
Can anyone confirm that part #15820988 is the correct STS-V upper mesh grill and will fit a 2006 V6, 1SC (non-speed adaptive cruise control).

I received the part number from gmpartsdirect.com, they have it listed for $224.25 total including shipping. However they can not guarantee this will fit.

I do like the factory piece better than the E&G.

Thanks

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

One piece of info to consider. I talked to a Cadillac rep at the SEMA in Las Vegas regarding the mesh grill for non - v vehicles. He told me that in no way would Cadillac make a mesh grill for the regular STS. They wanted to keep the allure and snob appeal of the V separate from the other models. Just food for thought.

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

You might want to just go to your Cadillac dealer and look at the front end of the V and the standard STS. You'll be able to tell right away if the front fascia is different on the V. E&G's upper and lower fits the standard STS.

I have taken my grill out of my '05 STS4 and had it painted to match the car. With this in mind I would think the V grill would fit well, or with some easy modifications, as everything the grill attaches to is plastic. The openings look the same. If you do have a Caddy dealer nearby then go by and measure the openings and take a pic of the area with the hood open.
I think it should fit with at worst some hole making.

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

Why not the E&G? It's designed specifically for the car and you know you don't have to modify it.

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

The factory peice just looks better. The lower bar isn't flat and thick like the E&G grill. I like how the emblem fits into the grill, rather than just being attached on top. It's also cheaper.

I ended up ordering it from another GM parts supplier who was able to tell me it should fit, and all the mounting hardware looks the same. I'll be sure to let you guys know how the install goes.

Keep us informed as how easy/hard it was to put on.. which part number did you use? (the one up top that you started with?) Any idea if that will fit the 2005 STS? I"ve been thinking of doing the same thing this spring...

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

It took me all of 30 minutes to puill the OEM CTS grill and put in the CTS-V grill, so I would expect no longer for the STS swap. I am planning to put the STS-V grill on my STS as well.

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

I don' know what you mean by flat and thick. I've seen their CTS V style grille and it follows the contour of the front fascia. It comes to a point just like the factory grille. Also, the center mesh is chrome plated and looks great.

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

I've seen both in person and I prefer the factory one. Here's a better photo of the E&G grill from the photo gallery.

http://www.cadillacforums.com/photop.../5264/size/big

To me the lower and side bars in the V grill appear to be slightly beveled, and the E&G appears to be flat. I also believe the E&G lower and side bars appear to be thicker (wider). I know E&G sells both the upper and lower grills in chrome. Since the stock lower grill is already stainless the factory upper stainless V grill should match.

I'll make sure to take some photos after the installation although I still have no guarantee that it fits...

Re: STS-V mesh grill upgrade, Not E&G grill

FYI, I just had the E&G mesh grille installed on my 06 STS and it looks fantastic. Mine supports the adaptive cruise control and the emblem is indeed sunken into the wire mesh unlike the non-adaptive E&G picture above. The frame is perhaps a TINY big larger than the Cadillac version in the picture above and it is flat (versus beveled) - but it truly looks great, certainly a thousand times better than that hunk of plastic that comes standard with the STS.

did it have any effect on the adaptive cruise control system?
