If you get the STS with navigation, the compass is integral with the navigation screen and then you do not get one in the mirror.

It took about 1.5 hours. The cost was $549 for a 3 year OnStar
service contract and either my dealer or GM added a year for free.
So I now have 4 years of paid up service.
The replacement mirror has all the features of the original equipment
mirror, compass, self dimming etc.
So far the upgrade appears to be a major improvement.
I used the phone while driving by places that caused problems with my old
phone and it worked fine.
My analog OnStar phone dropped carrier or screeched whenever
I got close to a cell phone tower, and there are a lot of them in my area. |

You techno guys need to get to a point as to what you bought this car for. It's a Cadillac. It' not your wife. it's not your lover.it's not your alternate ego, it's not your office, and not your telephone operator. If you truely need all the options of this Cadillac than you truely need more than this car or any car can offer. That's sad. You need to enjoy LIFE and I do enjoy this car even if it's not perfect. |

That is why I like the Northstar V8.
However, a car is much more enjoyable if it performs as advertised.
If the car has a built in hands free telephone, it should work.
Whats wrong with enjoying both the old and the new? |

It only costs $10 a month and then shares minutes with my regular Verizon cell phone. I think that's a lot better than buying cellular minutes from Onstar. The only thing that makes me mad is two weeks ago when I traded in my car, I had the old Onstar phone system and I cancelled service for that phone. When you add the Onstar phone to your Verizon plan, they give you a new Verizon number but since I had cancelled that account already, I could not make the Onstar phone have the same number as my old phone. Oh well.

That's the only way I have ever seen it happen, and I have seen it happen a lot.
You can change things like the microphone antenna and mirrors, but if you replace the module or swap cars, you get a new number. |

It was done as a waranty repair. I have not tried yet VR to see if it is improved but will report after I check it out. |

I am also happy that OnStar updated the host system last month to increase the speaking speed and reduce the extra verbiage during Virtual Adviser calls. |

You have to call onstar and make sure that your subscription is paid.
If it is paid for 3 years, your dealer will be calling you back.
The labor and the part are paid under warranty but the subscription is not. If the dealer who put it in doesn't realize that, they will when their open account gets billed for your subscription fee and they'll be wanting to talk to you. |

The old analog system is probably no longer available and only the digital one is now available.

The VR is 100 percent better. It can now recognize a southern accent. My wife and I have made many sucessful calls without error. The upgrade is highly recommended by both of us. Thanks Jim |

Option one is $599, option 2 is $1099, due at the time of installation.
You have to sign an agreement form, they fax it in and the kit is shipped to the dealer (takes a few days) then you go back for installation and when you pick it up you have to pay.
Visit OnStar.com for details. http://www.autocraft.com/aeweb/downl...pgradeForm.pdf
That's the link for the upgrade form, you must select a package and sign it at the bottom.
Some of the information must be filled out by your dealer.

If it includes an upgrade on the system that is an added bonus. Is there anyone on this service that I can purchase this thru? |

If your car is compatible with a digital upgrade kit and you are willing to pay for a 3 year contract any GM dealer should be able to do it for you.
We do them all the time here at Lindsay. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
