Bass Vibration Rattling
Hey Guys,
Depending on the kind of music and how the tracks/CD are recorded, some high bass levels sound good and others tend to make a vibration/rattling sound coming from the rear windshield dash (or whatever you call it) where the subwoofer is mounted. Could this possibly be due to a loose speaker/subwoofer covering or something similar? Any help/insight would be great...also, please share if you are having similar problems.
P.S. I have an 05 STS V8 with the stock BOSE audio (not the 15 speaker).

Rear deck.
Could be a loose subwoofer or it could be a frequency the woofer doesn't like or can't handle well (distortion).
It also could be any other loose item that is able to vibrate (panels, glass, headrest, foreign object, etc.)
I haven't experienced that sort of problem, although I haven't explored the highest volumes of the stereo either.

Re: Bass Vibration Rattling
Its probably as tight as it can be, and it is the metal grille where the sub is mounted, the vibration is normal, and might be able to deaden the rattling with dynamat. Also remember the cars are tested at optimal or moderate to low volume, not blasting. But if the rattling is occurring with medium volume then something might be loose, but if its rattling while volume is all the way up, then that's normal.

Re: Bass Vibration Rattling
I get a lil bit of rattling when bass/volume is high on the window and mirror controls on the driver door, if I hold the controls it stops...is there anyway of tightening this?

The overhead consoles seen to be the worst when it comes to rattling. The rear console is worse than the front. The rear deck doesnt seem to be very prone to rattles even though common sense would say different. Get some Dynamat and put it on aything that makes noise IMO

Re: Bass Vibration Rattling
My '08 STS (also with the standard Bose system) does this too. You don't even have to be 'blasting' the music to get the vibration. Happens at normal listening volumes.
I've purchased a better quality sub, and hope to swap that out with tbe OE woofer soon.

Try this. Get a piece of cloth about 14 or so inches wide and about 20 inches long, roll it tight and then tuck it where the rear window meets the package tray. Finish off by using something like a wooden ruler to push and bury the cloth deep into the edge, just until you cannot see it.
I say this because if you go back there and slap down on the tray, in most cases, you will replicate the rattle, with the sound system off.
I have this issue, but so far I do not have it rattle while driving or blasting my audio.
Hey, give it a shot, it's free with no down side. Let us know.................................... Joe P

Re: Bass Vibration Rattling
My window controls rattle too, as well as some other unidentified rattles from both front door panels. My 99 has twice the miles on it and it doesn't rattle like this at all.
