DVD-A Favorites
For Christmas, I got two DVD-A disks. Ray Orbison & The Beatles. Simply outstanding audio quality. I was disappointed a while back to learn that the Santana DVD isn't compatible with our system.
Anyone care to offer their favorite DVD-A titles?

Re: DVD-A Favorites
I don't have DVD-A discs, but I have DTS CDs for the car. Eagles Hell Freezes over is nice. I also have two different surround mixes of Dark Side of the Moon.

Re: DVD-A Favorites
Been looking for a couple weeks, and I can't find any stores carrying these discs. Guess I'll have to hit an on-line site. I want the Steely Dan disc.

I seriously doubt you'll fund them in a store. Bought mine at CD Universe.

Re: DVD-A Favorites
I have too many to list now, just for the car. DVD-As, DTS-CDs, and DVD-Vs.
With DVD-A you take a risk with our system. It will play, but will not decode the Advanced Resolution Surround (it down mixes to 2 channel). If the DVD-A has Dolby Digital or DTS tracks, you might be good for surround, but I have a few that will access those tracks on the home player but not in the car, so I'm stuck with 2 channel in the car (at a higher bit rate than CD at least).
I love the surround mixes when they work and DTS-CDs are the best because they always work in surround. One of my best of those is a best of the Police.
One of the best surround mixes I've heard is from Queen. It's a DVD-V, best of their music videos. The videos are terrible and stupid, but the 5.1 mix is amazing.
And I, unfortunately, have the Santana DVD-A that will not play at all.

Re: DVD-A Favorites
I have the nave and 5.1 surround. Do these systems have balance and fade controls? Not that you need it on this system, I just haven't noticed these controls.

Jeez, I can't believe I missed that button. I had my eyes wide shut convinced those controls would be part of the config button. I'm sure I looked at that note a hundred times but it never clicked..... thanks.

Re: DVD-A Favorites
I haven't found a DVD-A disk that sounds any good in the BlOSE system since the system is NOT capable of playing ANY multichannel DVD-A mix.
If a 'DVD-A' plays in multichannel it is because it ALSO has a COMPRESSED DTS or DD soundtrack included on it. It is NOT true DVD-Audio multichannel.
I only found out after the fact that the BlOSE system only supports 2-Channel DVD-A and multi-channel DTS/DD tracks. Beyond lame. Really. They never should have advertised DVD-A at all.

Re: DVD-A Favorites
I agree, this is a drag. Luckily DTS sounds pretty good, but it does suck that we can't get the full lossless 5.1 that true DVD-A has available. Also, with some discs, even when they have a Dolby Digital or DTS group of tracks, you can't get to it for some reason. That really makes me mad when I waste the money on the DVD-A disc.
With one of those discs, you are better off listening to the 2-channel mix of "Advanced Resolution" sound because it sounds worse when they down mix the 5.1 group.
If you read the manual, they do actually say that it will play Dolby Digital or DTS in surround, implying that that is the only way to get 5.1, but no mention specifically that you won't get the high resolution 5.1.
This is lame and they did not fix it with the latest firmware, so I suspect that the hardware was never capable of it. I tried to find out if they fixed this issue in the new SRX, but, so far, no one is that familiar with it and into DVD-A enough. I might (some day) take some discs to the dealer to try it.
Unfortunately, they may not put too much effort into it because DVD-A didn't really take off that well and Blue Ray will probably take over before long. But if they were at the top of their game, they would keep up with the new and have backwards compatibility too (a true universal player).
