Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

Remove this ad
Once today and once yesterday my 06 sts is reporting that the psi has dropped to 14 psi in the right front tire. Of course the PSI hasnt dropped, but it is telling me that it has. If i continue to drive it will go away after a while and report 32 or 33. Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

I'd say that the sensor is haywire and needs to be replaced. It's covered under warranty.

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

When you get your tires rotated you have to get the tire pressure monitors reset. If you don't, if for instance you rotated the front right to the right rear if the right front is low it's going to show that the right rear is low and you'll check it with a tire gauge and it will show normal and you'll think the system is bad.

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

I dont have any valve caps on my tires. Will that cause inacurate readings?

It won't affect accuracy but the TPMS sensors will be subject to contamination and there might be slight leakage. When replacing the caps be sure to get the right ones. There have been reports of the wrong caps corroding and becoming unremovable.

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

Any time you remove a wheel from it's hub and then move it to another hub the TPMS must be reset. Follow instructions in the manual. One hint, befor you reset the TPMS, make sure you have driven the car over 20 mph for a short period. When I do mine I inflate the tires to 35lbs
then proceed with the reset instructions. As I start with the left front tire I let out air until the horn beeps telling me that that sensor is set and do the same procedure with the other 3. When finished check tire pressure and reset to recommended tire pressure.

Re: Tire Pressure Sensor is Misreading

Dumb question........... Do the sensors need retrained when you get new tires assuming the same wheels go to the same corner of the car? In other words when a new tire is mounted to a rim and inflated will the sensor work as before or need retrained????
