Help Needed with Intellibeam

Remove this ad
Hi Guys,

I own a 2007 STS and am based in Dubai.

My car is equipped with Intellibeam feature (I can see the Intellibeam button on my rear view mirror) but it doesnt seem to work.

My understanding of the feature is that it automatically brings on the high-beams when its dark and shifts back to low beam when it senses tail-lights or oncoming headlights.

This doesnt seem to happen - Am I required to put the headlights in high beam first? And then wait for the Intellibeam to shift to low beam when it senses light from oncoming traffic??

OR can I keep the lights in low beam, switch on Intellibeam and expect it to automatically modulate the lights into high beam and low beam based on the light sensed.

Also, when High Beam comes on because of Intellibeam do you see the High Beam indicator (Blue color) on the DIC?

Intellibeam doesnt seem to work...plz help me.

Thanks...Does this mean that if I were to keep the lights in low beam, keep a speed of above 24 Km/h and keep the Intellibeam sensor (behind the rear view mirror) covered (to replicate complete darkness):

a) Intellibeam would automatically which on high beam?
b) The high beam (blue) indicator would appear on the DIC?

Just need to know a way to check if its working...because I really can't see it working.

Just in case...

"IF" you have your fog lights on...Intellibeam will "NOT" switch to high beam.

Not so on my 2006. I imagine it looks weird but the Fog's turn on when Intellibeam switches off the brights. The foglamp display reflects these changes as does the blue brights indicator & HUD. It's a mini-lightshow!

I think you do have to enable Intellibeam with a press & hold to the mirror button. If you don't get it working, check the manual.

If all else fails, post your results here and someone will dig it out.

Have fun!

Cool...I learned something today.

On my 2006 DTS...if you have the fogs on...Intellibeam "WILL NOT" switch to high beam.
If the fogs are "OFF" it works as designed.
If fogs are "ON" and you use the stalk to MANUALLY go to HIGH BEAM...the fogs go "OFF"
If you manually go back to low beam...the fogs come back on.

Jim

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

Four things have to exist for the intellibeam to work propely.

(1) The Intellibeam switch has to be toggled to on on the mirror.

(2) The Lights have to be on "Automatic ON". You can do this by rotating the light switch at the end of the light stick clockwise and back to auto and watch the DIC to see that it says auto on.

(3) Stick has to be in the low beam position

(4) Intellibeam only works when the car is going 23-25 mph or higher. Below that level it automatically goes into low beam

The blue High Beam light comes on automatically when the car shifts into high beam. The Intellibeam sensor is very sensitive to rear lights, headlights and bright reflections but seems to be fairly immune to streetlights unless there are a lot of them in a short distance.

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

Placement of a RADAR detector can cause the reflection of its display to affect Intellibeam, too.

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

I just had the chance to see if Intellibeam worked with my fog lamps on the way to work this morning. I always use the Automatic Headlight setting, anyways, so I simply switched on the fogs, then enabled the Intellibeam, and it worked fine. If an oncoming car was detected, it would go to low-beams w/ fogs, then switch to high-beams after the car passed. So the fogs do work with intellibeam on my 06 STS. Of course, if you manually change any settings regarding the lights, you would have to enable Intellibeam again.

I can mess around with my settings and as long as I get it back to normal, Intellibeam is ready. To disable it, I have to hit the button on the mirror.

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

On mine, if I do anything manually to the lights, like "Flash to pass", or turn the fogs on/off, I have to press the Intellibeam button to enable it again.

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

There is a testing procedure that you can do in the daylight. Hold the intellibeam button down while the car is started. The bright lights (HID) will cycle through the gradual brightening and dimming process 3 times.

nothing happened. I don't think its working on my car...

I dont see it bringing on the high beam automatically at night either..

Can i do anything else to check if its working?

Re: Help Needed with Intellibeam

Perform the demonstration mode under daylight conditins only.
Ignition must be OFF.
Hold the Intellibeam button down for about 8 seconds WHILE the ignition is turned ON.
The high beam indicator will turn ON.

Demonstration mode will run about 45 seconds. During this time you will be able to see the headlight fading and be able to test the mirror sensor with a dark cloth. The green light on the mirror will verify status on/off.

Wow! I didn't know this....Thanks a lot!

Its daylight here and I just tried what you recommended above. I seemed to get the Demo running...The headlights faded..and the blue indicator on the DIC (for high beam) came on and went-off thrice.

However, when I tried putting a dark cloth in front of the mirror sensor (to test it), I didnt seem to get a response.

Now, if I am able to view the demonstration, why doesnt Intellibeam bring on the High Beam automatically at night when it is completely dark. At night, I ensure that:

1. My speed is above 32 Kmph
2. Fog lights are switched off
3. Lights are in Auto mode
4. Intellibeam on rear view mirror is switched ON
5. High Beam stalk is in neutral position (i.e. on Low Beam)

Still, I dont see, High Beams being brought on automatically. Could I do anything else?
