While it does extend the life of the tires, one may experience poorer performance for a period of time afterwards. Proponents of this view say that a wear pattern forms high and low spots on a tire and after rotation your contact patch is reduced.
IMHO, longer tire life more than offsets whatever truth there is to this theory. If I underestimate the facts, I would counter that tire rortation should be performed even more frequently to mitigate any performance concerns. I will probably go with 255/45/18 all around on my 2006 when the time comes.
I am inclined to accept that staggered and directional tires should probably not be rotated. |
