Anyone know how to...

get the panel that houses the controls for the DIC out of the dash?
(the one on the left of the steering column)

I'm wanting to use one of the buttons for my LockPick.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone know how to...

I personally have never done it, but here's what I could find in the manual ('05 STS). I couldn't find anything that said the DIC switch assembly would pop straight out of there on its own.

1. Pull outward on the center trim in order to release the clip retainers.
2. Remove the trim from the instrument panel.

3.Pull outward on the cluster trim in order to release the clips securing the trim to the instrument panel.

4.Disconnect the electrical connectors.
5.Disconnect the aspirator tube.

It doesn't say whether the steering wheel is in the way or not. At least if you do it this way you could tell the rest of us if the switch assembly would have popped out without removing the trim.

Re: Anyone know how to...

Ah, heck, since I already have the center trim off I'll give it a shot.
Nice to know that it's only clips for the cluster trim also.

Thanks much!

Re: Anyone know how to...

Well, the trim needs to be removed since the cluster comes out to the rear.
I got it out, but it's not something that I'm going to be able to reuse the switch as I was hoping. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Back to the drawing board.
