CPO Checklist

Remove this ad
I've read several references to a checklist that is performed by a dealer's service department in order for a car to be sold as 'Certified Pre-Owned'. When I recently bought my 2006 STS4 V8 1SG w' 42,500 miles, I negotiated to get the CPO coverage. The VIN Check now shows the CPO extended warranty (thanks lusterblade). So obviously, I am covered.

However, I don't think the car ever saw the service department to be 'Certified'. Shortly after the purchase, I discovered the 255/45x18 tires on the front and the 235/50x18's on the rear. The previous owner had his dealer rotate the tires! My dealer made that good but a Service Engine light that came on has led to some other items. And now I'm waiting for them to get the latest Nav. upgrade, replacement ignition switch, etc.

If someone could share the CPO checklist, I'd like to make sure there's nothing else that should get attention while I have it in the shop.

Thanks in advance...

Re: CPO Checklist

Although I wouldn't buy a Cadillac without CPO, and my last two and current STS's have been, in some cases nothing special has been done to the car except normal cleaning and services that are done prior to putting the car on the lot. On my 93 I did get the checklist, for whatever that's worth, but I didn't get one on my 2000 or 2007. On my 2007, when I bought it, the car only had 2300 miles on it so what could be wrong? Although I got the salesmans pitch that the certification would be an extra $1500.00 because it takes a technichan all day to do a certification and it is basically an insurance policy, your paying for, against repairs. The only thing they did was clean it and change the oil. When 'certification' first came about, sure they followed details, but since then, IMO, not much is done except for what I outlined in the beginning. If something goes wrong the dealership makes money on the repairs. I guess it's a win win situation knowing that any repairs, except for normal wear/tear items, will be fixed at no charge to the owner and you get free loaners and the extras like roadside assistance etc for 6yr,100k bumper to bumper.
