Remote start not-so-remote

Can anybody shed some light on why the remote start feature on my 2005 STS works from only about 6 feet away?
  • I have checked Remote Start settings for both drivers -- turned on and both have identical settings
  • New batteries in both fobs
  • Car won't lock/unlock from more than 30 feet away, either

This isn't something that used to work but now doesn't -- when I acquired the car in May it didn't work at that time, either. (When a dealer remote starts the car in the car lot, you're usually not more than 10 feet away, anyway. If you haven't had remote start before it's damn impressive!)

My GM dealer is unaware of any technical bulletin related to weak antenna or reception from the fobs.

Any direction you can give my dealer would be really helpful, since my thermometer this winter has seen -29 below from time to time!

thanks

Re: Remote start not-so-remote

I also purchased an '05 in May and had similar problems. My dealer fixed it by replacing the door lock module in the drivers door. This also cured the intermittent loss of communication with the tire monitors

Nice idea. Thanks.

I will pass this along to the dealer when I see them in a couple of weeks.

Seems expensive and I'm out of warranty.

Any other ideas until then?

Anybody?
