2006 STS V8 - Block Heater Help

Remove this ad
Figured out the 2006 STS I bought in the summer does not have a block heater. Just wondering if anyone has the part number for it - I would like to compare pricing in the US (dealership here wants $460 or so). Also, does anyone have any info on how to install?

Thanks.

Re: 2006 STS V8 - Block Heater Help

I'd not mess with a Block Heater that installs through a 'freeze plug'. An aftermarket coolant heater will do the job and preserve the N* block.

The factory block heater is not a "freeze plug heater". It is a purpose built heater that slides into a cavity in the rear of the block that is machined for that purpose and retained with a clip. It heats the engine sufficiently for starts down to at least -50F. It works very well for me.

You would know! I retract my comment! I'd heard your area was a bit cold lately, even for you guys...

Take care.
