XM Function Gone!

Remove this ad
Just purchased a used 2005 STS4 last weekend and the XM radio worked for the first day I had it from the previous owner I guess. The XM button then dissappeared and the radio switched to WX channel 1. I figured the radio finally realized there was no subscription for the XM service, so I called XM and had service activated for it.

First problem I had is that there is no way to turn to channel 0 to get the radio ID. XM tells me they can get the radio ID from the car's VIN number. OK, so they do so and send out the signal to activate it and tell me to leave it on channel 1. The WX channel 1 is all that comes in and it just plays weather forecast over and over.

After messing with this all day I still have no XM service in the car and the XM button still does not appear. I let the car sit in the driveway for over an hour with it on the WX channel 1 to pick up the update signal, but still nothing.

Is there any way to reset the factory radio or some special way to get the XM button back? I tried pulling the fuse for the Radio/Onstar for about 5 min., but still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: XM Function Gone!

Bulletin, you need the receiver replaced.
(the XM receiver is a separate unit from the radio)
Even if your subscription is inactive it will show as a choice on the radio.
There is a software issue in the XM receiver and a new part number was released to prevent that from happening again. Cycling battery power will restore operation but it may act up again.
Take it in not working or the dealership will act like nothing is wrong.
Make sure to mention to the service advisor that you heard about this bulletin and ask them to look into it.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know the bulletin number? Also, since I see you're a Caddy Tech, what other bulletins / updates should I have done? The car is still under the factory BTB warranty for another few months. Thanks again!

Re: XM Function Gone!

I am having a similar problem. My xm function is available, but when I switch to xm it says NO SIGINAL. It doesn’t matter what channel I am on, it always says the same thing. All the channels are there but there is no signal on any of them, not even channel #1. Xm says it’s a problem with the radio. The xm worked great for about 6 months then one day it just stopped. Could this be the same problem you mentioned above?

Thanks

Sounds like your issue is a bad antenna or antenna connection.

Re: XM Function Gone!

The "no signal" message is a completely different issue.
If XM shows no signal it is either the XM antenna or the XM receiver, not the radio.
On an '05 they are two different devices.

As for the OP, I don't have the TSB number handy but I can look it up later if I have time.
Work and my personal life are going pretty crazy right now so my time is limited but I'll see what I can do.
