What model year did the STS go to the current style key FOB that is used in 2008?

Well, if it is the same as the Escalade and SRX, they switched IN 2008 to the square fob with the Caddy logo on it. By the way, 08 style fobs will work in earlier SRXs (06+ confirmed) and Lades (07+ confirmed). I would suspect older 05+ STSs are compatible too with 08 STS fobs.

Re: STS key FOB

This information is correct. The new fob used on the 2008 STS was introduced for the 2008 model. Funny thing is that on my 2007 there are pictures of BOTH (old and new) fobs in the owners manual. I LOVE the look of the new fobs, but to me it's not worth the hundred and fifty bucks to replace the fobs on my car. I will just wait till the lease is up and I will get the new fobs on my next car.

Agree. ONLY advantages for me beyond looks it that they seem to have an increased range and with the OEM 07 Lade fob, it never set the seat to 1 or 2 like the old days. The new fobs have 1s and 2s on them again and WILL set the seat in my 07 to the right preset when the unlock fob button is pushed. I think that situation is unique to the Lades though, not STS. I got my fob for free. Otherwise, I would not have made the "upgrade".

Feature was integrated and standard on the redesign of the STS starting with the 2005 Model year. It also made its appearance on the 2005 Corvette and the 2005 XLR. This year (2008) the feature made its way onto the CTS although it is a 'pay for option' and works a little differently than the system in the STS, XLR and C6 Vette.
