Re: Black Tail Lights

Those D3 lights are really nice but awfully pricey. Anyone experiment with a light coat of blackout or tinting the lenses? Wouldn't look as trick but for 1/10th the cost, I'd give it a shot.

Re: Black Tail Lights

Ya D3 charges about double what it shoud be, $650 is way too much. Fortunately, this is one product that they don't have an exclusive on for this car. I actually bought the same ecact tail lights from the dealer. I think it was about $280 something, not too sure on the exact price, but gmaccessorieszone dot com has them for $325. (what do u know, half the price of d3 exactly). The thing is they are black trimmed some on the inside, but they are practically clear (Euro), not smoked. If you are looking for smoke best to experiment with tint I guess.
Just a rant on D3, there is so much stuff I want but you guys are way too expensive. Unfortunately there is only you and E&G for the STS and E&G has far fewer accessories. For this case however the dealer itself was much better. My friend has a Lexus GS and with the huge market for that car he can get normal prices on new accessories and he can find more things used too. Hey D3, I really want a roof spoiler, but $600, no way. To bad u are the only ones who makes this for the STS. When you bring it to a normal, reasonable price for something like this, lets say in the $200s, Then we'll talk!

Re: Black Tail Lights

I am not really looking for the euro looking tailights. I am looking for ones that are either tinted black or painted black.

I'm sure you could find a good tint shop to put a film on them. I know I've read on other forums that people have done the same thing themselves with a product by VHT called "nightshades" which is a spray on and works well and is easy to apply. Might be worth it to buy the smoked clear lenses from GM Accessories, experiment with them till you get what you like, then sell your factory taillights to someone else for the same project.

Here's a writeup on the Mustang Forum where people used both the tint and the VHT spray to get some nice looking results. http://www.mustangforums.com/m_10489..._1/key_/tm.htm

Re: Black Tail Lights

In order to get the look you want, and do it right, you will have to find a shop to disassemble the light assembly and tint them from the inside. Be carefull who you use because if the units are not reassembled (resealed) correctly, they will collect condensation on the inside.

IMO very nice look. I don't know what part of the country you live in, but in St Louis, job like this should cost $400-$500 for the pair.
