Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

I have a problem playing some burnt cds and mp3s in my 2005 STS. The manual for my bose 6 disc navi system claims to play mp3, cd, dvd, ect... When playing a burnt cd the cd takes sometimes up to a minute to load. At times when playing a cd it automatically switches to another cd. For example I have 16 songs on a cd but when it reaches song 3 it changes to another cd. Other times I'll have a cd with 16 tracks and seek to track 10 but it only shows 3 tracks on the cd. mp3s will not play at all. When reading mp3 discs it spits out disc error. I have tried different brands. Could this be an issue with the program I am using to burn my cds or do these system really not play mp3s?

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

I've never had an issue with mine. I use sonic software. One thing I did have a problem with, was with my escalade, it would not play songs with fancy id tags, or sometimes it would, but not show the song info.

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

All of my MP3 discs play well. I use various cheap CD media. Perhaps your unit has a problem with the laser mechanism. Unfortunately you may never convince a dealer of that. Maybe it's the machine creating the discs... try burning on a different computer?

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

I've tried burning an mp3 on multiple different computers and brands of discs. It still does not play an mp3 disc. I'm taking my vehicle in for service next week and I will for sure mention to them my problem. I have a friend that owns a 2006 STS and claims to have never been able to play mp3s as well.

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

One thing to check is that you are closing the disc after the write. Don't leave the session open. Although the player can read discs that are open, it is always better to finalize the disc. Make sure the disc mounts in another player like your DVD etc and then take it to the dealer. My 06 plays MP3's perfectly. Except for the long load time and inability to scroll songs while in motion (what do you call 10,00 dead lawyers... oh forget it) MP3 work very well. One strange programming issue you will see when they fix this is if you have a mix of MP3 and CD (WAV) loaded, the player will skip the MP3 discs in favor of the next CD if you are at the end of a CD. So disc 1 is CD, disc 2 is MP3 and disc 3 is CD, when disc 1 ends it skips number 2 and starts playing disc 3. Go figure.

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

I took my car in for some warranty work and asked them to look into the issue. When I got my car back it was hours later and I was so blinded by my other repairs that I forgot about this issue. I'm going to run a series of tests to see if I can get my mp3s to play. Then I will have an update. But it seems that I'm the only one with this issue.

If you want to rule out your burning software or media, I would be willing to mail you a known good MP3 CD. Just PM me with your postal address.

Re: Playing burnt cds and mp3 problem

Well I did manage to get a mp3 cd to play in my car. I'm guessing its the software on my computer along with some songs I have downloaded as well. I burnt an mp3 from a friend's laptop using media player and everything seems to be working great. I tried using his laptop to burn the same songs from my thumb drive and that cd did not work. I also tried burning the songs from his laptop on my computer and that cd did not work as well. So I'm assuming the data along with the program I've been using is messing up the burning of the cd.
