What video format does the Nav Play?

Remove this ad
Since my Tomm Lockpick is in the mail, I am starting to really think about all of the cool stuff I might be doing with my Nav.
What video formats play? If the videos are on regular CD, will it still play? I want to burn my own.
Thanks!

Re: What video format does the Nav Play?

Oh, and before anyone flips out, I did check the manual. And I quote:
"The system can play DVD - Video, DVD - Video (DTS), DVD - Audio, CD - Digital
Audio (CD - DA), CD-DA (DTS), CD - Text, CD - Extra, MP3 - CD, CDR, and CDRW. The system may also
play DVD - R and DVD - RW type discs depending on the writing software used. The system will play DTS-type
discs and tracks and Dolby® tracks in surround sound."
So what can I convert my .avi and .mpeg files into to play?

Use any DVD Creator program and make your own DVD's with all your video files... The programs will take care of everything and convert the video files to the correct format.

Re: What video format does the Nav Play?

DVD's are MPEG-2. If you look at he files on the disc they are in the .vob format, but underneath they are MPEG-2. As tomm said, any half way decent DVD authoring software will take the DiVX, AVI, WMP, MPG, etc and transcode them into MPEG-2 format. I have found that on my 06', the DVD player is a bit finiky about the DVD media. It really does not like DVD-RW, even high quality discs. Probably because of a lower powered diode. DVD-R seem to work well even on cheap media like CopmpUSA crap; it just takes a bit longer to load. Have fun with your new toy and try to keep your eyes on the road.

Re: What video format does the Nav Play?

will video play is I burn MPEG-2 to CD?
My problem is I do not have a DVD burner as of yet.
I realize I will only be able to put 1/8 of the data on a CD

Re: What video format does the Nav Play?

What you are talking about is VCD and I don't think it can play that format. MPEG-2 on a CD will not load, besides, I know of no software that will author that combination. You could dump the file as data to the disc, but the TOC will be written as a data CD not VCD, so it still won't play. Search around, you can find some dirt cheap DVD burners.

Re: What video format does the Nav Play?

Yeah, Buy a DVD burner... A quick search...

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...IGE-DT&cpc=SCH

$39... I am sure you can find them locally as well... Media is not expensive either. VCD quality it pretty bad anyway so its not worth your time.
