Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

You can try to reset the logic in the radio by disconnecting the battery, wait for 5 or 10 minutes, then reconnect it.
If that does not restore screen operation you'll have to take it in for repair. I have had units do this before.
Pretty rare, takes a new radio. You're still under warranty right?

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

Mind did the same thing when I was fooling around with it one day. Disconnect and reconnecting the battery fixed it.

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

Best way is to use an 8mm or 5/16" to unhook the ground cable from the battery.
No quick disconnect, only nuts and fuses.

if i remove only the head unit fuse will that have the same effect as disconnecting the battery cable? if so i think that would be a lot easier than disconnecting the battery, if that is the case please tell me where is the location of the fuse box and which one is the head unit fuse. thanks in advance.

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

The underhood fuse block has the major fuses that feed sub circuits and the rear fuse blocks.
GM doesn't use a single "main" fuse, but several larger fuses in place of what used to be "fuse links".
In recent years they have gone to using maxi fuses or small square fuses with colored housings.
Those are usually the main fuses but I can't guarantee pulling them all will do the job, although it could.

I'd have to find radio schematics and search the power distribution schematics to really tell you the best way to be sure... without disconnecting the battery.

You talked me into looking....

There are two 60 Amp fuses in the underhood fuse block labeled "L Rear" Try pulling those out for a few minutes. Then put them back in.
If that doesn't work the next step would be a battery disconnect, if that fails, it is a trip to the dealer.

ok i opened up the fuse box but i couldn't find the fuses labeled L Rear, i really stink at this mechanical stuff i had a hard time removing that big cover thingy under the hood and i couldn't even find the right fuse , i think i didn't even close the fuse cover right i think it was suppose to click and i didn't hear any click, anyways thanks for the help if you could confirm that the fuse removal thing works in reseting the unit it would be really helpful since i will try removing all fuses and see, other wise i will go to a near by mechanic and tell him to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and connecting it back and see if it gets fixed.

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

Let me see if this will work.

Over on the left side you can see the small square fuses labeled L REAR
Pull those out. Don't break them.
They are hard to get out.

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

thanks ewill3rd ,i remembered that i didn't do my 50.000 service yesterday so i took it to the dealer today to do it and asked them about this problem and they told me it's a software problem, they said updating the software would fix that problem for good ,removing the battery is temp solution and the problem will come back , so they told me to bring it tomorrow to do the software update , it's a 2005 so do you think updating the software will fix this problem for good?

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

you wont believe this BUT my car has different fuse box map then the one you have!, i live in Kuwait and i took it to the dealer today and they told me i have to update the software in order to avoid that problem for good, one thing I'm worried about is that in here they don't have XM radio so instead the xm radio bottom is replaced with TV , they equip the STS here with TV tuners instead of XM so I'm kinda worried if they updated the software for me i would lose the TV feature and get xm radio which is not available here, i hope GM did an updated version of the new software for countries outside the US also so they don't lose the TV feature if they updated, what do you think should i update? because i don't think they know the answer in the dealership, i think they wanna try on me and see!

Re: HELP! Nav screen no touch response

Hmmm... so this was built for export? Do you know the original country of sale?
I am not sure I can answer those questions for you to be honest. I have never dealt with an export car.
I know the exports get a TV tuner setup and no XM but I don't know how that will affect the software update.
They probably have bulletins for that stuff that deals with export hardware.

I think maybe you just lost me

#06-08-44-029: New Route Cannot Be Calculated When Using 2007 Model Year Map DVD, Voice Recognition System Performs Poorly, Noisy Map Drive When Updating Traffic Message Channel (Update Audio/Navigation Software) - (Sep 13, 2006)

Subject: New Route Cannot Be Calculated When Using 2007 Model Year Map DVD, Voice Recognition System Performs Poorly, Noisy Map Drive When Updating Traffic Message Channel, Memory Seat Function Operation Complicated (Update Audio And Navigation System Software)

Models: 2005-2006 Cadillac STS (European Export Vehicles Only)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Condition
Some customers may comment of any or all of the following conditions:

• They cannot calculate a route in their vehicle's navigation system when using the updated 2007 model year map disc, P/N 15924193.

• Poor performance of the voice recognition system.

• The map drive makes too much noise when updating the Traffic Message Channel (TMC) information.

• The memory seat function operation is complicated.

Cause
This condition may be caused by the navigation system software. The format of the European map DVD, starting in the 2007 model year, is different than in previous year's and the navigation system software will require an update.
