Intermittent. Took it to the dealer who said that they could not duplicate it. The memory did have a code (P1101 according to Autozone) but he said that there was no history recorded for it. Therefore, they had no way to troubleshoot it. OnStar said not to drive it.
The light comes on about twice a week. It stays on for a day, or so, then goes away. It seems to coincide with a drop in ambient temperature, coming ON when the ambient temperature drops below 70 degrees F. It doesn't go off, however, when the temperature goes above 70. That takes a day or so.
Took it back to the dealer on Friday, but I was told that they were too busy to look at it.
P.S., is there a way to check the engine codes on the radio? Pressing a combination of buttons maybe? I have the factory nav system with touch-screen. The guy at Autozone said that he thought there was a way to do it, and it would provide much more information than his scan tool provided. I can get nothing from my dealer.
There's never been any info on this board as to how to get the car to display codes. If it can be done (like it can in older Cadillacs), nobody has figured it out.

This procedure will get you into the innards of the NAV system and from there you can screw it up good. It has nothing to do with engine/body/abs trouble codes.
There are some STS that have fuel mixture issues, I know I have one, did a settlement with GM under the lemon law. Check engine light comes on goes off after a few days like yours. Codes show the car is running lean. If the delaer hooks the car up the fuel air mixture dances right at the tollerances to trigger codes. Car had new 02 sensors, new throtle body, new airbox, new pcm, new fule pump, fuel injection cleaning (Only thing that helped slightly), everything was tried to improve the fuel flow. caddillac will not put out a tsb or recall but I have heard there are a certain number of these cars with this issue and there is no fix, many have gone into buyback, if yours is one of these cars get a lemon law lawyer settle on cash plus extended warranty and get yourself a scan tool to clear the code and turn the light off for these codes when they come or make them buy it back if you dont want to deal with the light.
I have had the same issue. I keep getting the engine icon. I bought the car in Nov and end up driving my dogs car (1998 ford explorer) most of the time. The Caddy is in the shop at least once a month. My dealer is an hour a way and I lose time and bucks each time it's in the shop. After they say they have fixed the issue, about 130 miles down the road, it pops on again. They said they replaced a fuel sensor but I believe they are just resetting the codes? I've never had such issues with a car. Discouraging...for a luxury vehicle. I guess they are the ultimate in luxury You can't drive them...they just sit in the driveway or the dealers service lot and look pretty. This one is an expensive lawn ornament. You can also put a sticker on your reliable vehicle "Don't laugh...my other car is a Cadillac" to make you feel better :O
I live in Upstate NY and it won't pass emissions testing for inspection..if the light keeps coming on. Has anyone been through the lemon law deal? I'm heartbroken to think that I have to go back to driving a Dodge.
This might help...One of the most causes for the check engine light to come on is that the gas cap is not secured properly. Some people do not like to turn the gas cap until it 'clicks' because it's a little harder to unscrew the cap. Not tightening the cap properly will cause venting problems and that causes the check engine light to come on.
The check engine light comes on and goes off in my 05 Chevy Silverado and the cause is the water cooling thermostat. I watch my water temp gauge and it goes up and down depending on the outside temperatures. It's supposed to open at 190 degrees and hold that water temp. Winter is coming so I guess I'll have to get it replaced.

Any where I can find more info on this situation? I think I may have one of these cars and would like to figure out other symptoms. I'm getting ready to start a thread on this as well.
