Cool Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

Remove this ad
I have been talking with Cadillac about problems with my Bluetooth. Bottom line is they came to market with a product that does not work as advertised. The position of the Mic was a poor place. For whatever reason, they cannot turn up the sensitivity. That alone makes no sense.

The frustrating thing is I told them how to fix it. The mic needs to be moved to over my head. And it is a real easy job! All you need is 15 minutes, 2 feet of mic wire, and wire cutters. They told me the dealer will fix it for me but I will have to pay for it. I am like WTF! WHY! It is just the principle of the thing. The product does not work; I am telling you how to fix it, FIT IT!

Long story short, it is not a warranty concern because it would require modifications to the vehicle to fix. I had to have her explain this to me a few times. It still does not make sense. I fail to see why modifications are relevant.

Bottom line is they are not doing anything. They know there is a problem but I guess it will cost too much to fix. I asked is there anything she could do as a courtesy. She said Cadillac will mail me a $200 gift certificate for service/maintenance. While I am OK with that, I really think Cadillac did a disservice to them by not standing behind their product when it is such an easy fix.

Please, everyone call into Cadillac Customer service, and demand your $200 gift certificate!

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

hmmm so my assumption was right... It's good that you reached them regarding that, coz I can't from my place...

they can't turn up the sensitivity !!!.... there is no mic in the world that you cant turn up it's sensitivity ...

anyways, I expected that they will not do anything for free coz it has to be one of those warranty issues, but this is a mod... I mean, those dealers can't do such mod for free unless there is an official document from GM for such change...

I'm not sure about that, but that's what I think... and that's why they gave 200$ gift cert., they had nothing in their hands to do...

maybe the next step we have to do is to reach Bob lutz : P

Mic position. That explains things.

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

Ben,

Have you tried to use the phone that is included with OnStar? I would assume that it uses the same Mic that the Bluetooth phone uses. If there isn't a problem with the OnStar phone, then I would expect a reasonable answer as to why there are all sorts of problems with the Bluetooth phone. Of course if the OnStar phone sucks then were back to square one.

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

Never did the Onstar. That is a good idea. I assume it uses the same mic.

Sorry if I was not clear. From my understanding, the $200 can only be used for like oil changes and other scheduled items.

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

Turning up the mic sensitivity would only increase the background noise along with your voice. Not a good idea. The mic does indeed work well with Onstar. I have used it many times so that kind of blows the idea that the mic is the only problem idea although any time you get closer to a mic it will improve the voice quality. Our Bluetooth works as long as the windows are up and the sunroof is closed to reduce background noise.

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

An idea:

I heard about small thing that you can place in front of your ear and it will get most sound from the direction you are pointing it to... it will reduce the sound from all other directions...

I mean, instead of playing with wires, this thing can be placed right under the mic and pointed to the driver. Not the best solution, but the easiest...

anyone who knows it ?...

I don't understand, mine works equally well on both Onstar and My wife and I's bluetooth. When she talks to me on it I have to tell her to talk normally instead of like she's sitting in the back seat. She's 5'11' I'm 6 ft.

Have you had the update installed that I posted a couple of months ago?

My Bluetooth works just fine in my car too. I speak at a normal conversation volume, and I've never had folks on the other end state they can't hear me. FWIW I''m 5'10 and sit back away from the steering wheel.

Mr car is scheduled for the NAV update this Friday.

Re: Call Cadillac for your $200 gift certificate

From what I have been reading, the problems are much more frequent in the 05 and early 06 models. From a functional perspective, my 07 works very well. However, the BT implementation is half baked in that it won't download your directory from your phone and doesn't enable the phone's voice recognition capabilities. In truth, the BT function was of little interest to me when I bought the car. However, if it's in there, it should work and be complete implementation. Hell, a $60 headset can activate a phone's voice recognition. This isn't very difficult. I looked at the BT specs and the command sequence is nothing major. My big question is why does GM pay lots of money for MARKET RESEARCH and then choose to ignore it???

If they can make mics that pick up voices clearly in hurricane force winds, I hope cadillac can figure out how to overcome some background road noise.

But now I have fixed my problem. Yes, I feel whitetrash, but it needed to be done. I got some wire cutters and chopped dat bitch up. The mic is located now right above my head and no one has a problem hearing me.

Now if I could just get it to connect 100% of the time. It connects 80% of the time... Oh well, it is not like it is a $63K car. Oh wait, it is.

I still love my car very much.
