My solution to the Bluetooth problem...

People are still having problems hearing me on my Bluetooth. It connects great.

Caddy called me today and for the most part told me it was not a warranty issue. I did not follow why, but, whatever.

I have figured out what the problem is. The mic is in a horrible place. It is too far away. For some people it might be fine. I am a rather tall person, 6’ 3” and I have my seat all of the way back. For a smaller person that can hug the steering wheel, it would appear to be close enough.

What I need to do is relocated the mic closer to where I sit. If the mic was just above my head, I would come in clear and loud enough. I tested it being at a distance I would be if the mic was about my head.

The mic pops out easy and there appears to be 2 tiny wires in a single wire connecting the mic.

My plan is to cut the wire and run a wire from the rear view mirror, above the hear liner, and out the sunroof opening. I would the reconnect the mic at that location.

The customer service rep is going to see if she can get the dealership to help me with this idea.

My questions are, has anyone done this? Any particular wire I should use? What are the chances the dealership will help with this modification? I think very unlikely. When they tell me they are not going to do anything, what would be reasonable to demand?
Thanks!

Re: My solution to the Bluetooth problem

I was wondering if height was an issue. You may be on to something. I have not had the software upgrade yet, but my voice volume does not seem to be much of an issue. But, I'm 5'5" so you may have found your problem/solution...
As for the dealer helping you out with that modification, I'd be surprised, but you never know... Maybe some donuts or a 6 pack or some cash to a guy in service that can do it might work....

Re: My solution to the Bluetooth problem

I am getting the wire cutters out on Tuesday with or without the help of the dealer! I will keep everyone advised.

I am assuming I am the first moron to start cutting up his $63K Lac. Oh well... But I feel so trashy.

Re: My solution to the Bluetooth problem

Probably a good audio shop would be the best choice for help. They would have the shielded mic cable and soldering equipment to make sure the mic is reconnected properly. Obviously the mic picks up background noise as well as your voice. Getting it closer to your mouth would increase the chances of you being heard over the background noise. I have seen some cars in Europe with the mic attached to a small flexible boom coming out of the headrest so it can be placed near your mouth when driving.

Re: My solution to the Bluetooth problem

I've noticed that problem too. I'm 6'1" and whenever I try to use the bluetooth feature, I move the back of the seat closer just so the feature works better. It understands the voice commands ALOT better when I am closer.
