    How to change dead battery

Battery in 2010 SRX is dead, is it simple to change it myself or will I cause other issues? Are there specific instructions? Nothing in the manual and not having much luck searching online.

    Thank you,
    Darla

Re: How to change dead battery

See my other post. Crazy Battery offer Amazon..

Swap out was a 15 min process.

-You will need small Ratchet with an extension.
    -You will need a 13mm and a 10mm socket

    1. Remove cover over battery by unclipping 4 clips on side of box ( 2 each side )
    2. Lift cover, flip over and let rest on front of vehicle with all cables attached, it will stay.
    3. you will find 2 additional metal clips holding top harness on top of battery, positive side, remove entire clip and note which slot it came out of ( trust me )
    4. Use 10mm to loosen positive cable off battery, move cable out of way.
    5. Use 10mm to loosen negative cable off battery, move cable out of way.
    6. Remove block harness off of top of battery, push out of way.
    7. use 13mm to remove battery hold down clip. (make note of position and 2 parts to make it work)
    8. Lift battery out of car.

Install new Battery and reverse procedure.

Warning, car alarm may go off when you re-connect the battery, so don't jump when you connect it.

NOTE: Once installation is complete, you will see a message on the DIC telling you to Open and Close the Driver window. Then, it will tell you to Open and Close the Passenger window.
You may need to also reset some features in Config. for the Radio etc.

That's it, a $280- battery for $106- DIY. Dealer will charge you over $350-

Re: How to change dead battery

I'd reverse steps 4 and 5. Because ---> When you loosen up the positive cable and if your rachet happens to touch any metal part, it will spark. If you loosen up the the negative first (then get cable out of the way), then you don't have to worry about sparking. You can get the battery replaced just in few minutes.
Note: take the battery to any parts store and they will check it for you. The cause may not be the battery.

This is critical, especially when you're reversing the steps during installation of a new battery.

    Continued...
Attachment 241914 Unclip next harness attached to top of battery and move to side.

Attachment 241922 Remove bolt and Battery hold down at bottom front of battery. ( Note position and 2 parts along with the screw orientation so you put them back the same way)

    Attachment 241930 Hold down removed.

Attachment 241938 Remove old battery ( Dispose of properly if you purchased the AGM replacement from Amazon since you cannot return the core. Some autoparts stores may give you a store credit for returning the old battery to them anyway )

Attachment 241946 Drop in new battery oriented just the way you see it..

Attachment 241954 Optional ( Clean battery terminals with wire brush and coat the terminals and cables with "CRC Battery Terminal Protectant" )

Reverse procedure above and put it all back...... N O T E !!! ALARM MAY GO OFF WHEN YOU RECONNECT BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE, be prepared...

Attachment 241962 Double check everything.... Start car and Follow instructions on DIC about the 2 front windows....

Now go out and have a nice dinner on all the money you saved...... See post on Amazon AGM Battery for additional photos and CRAZY Battery pricing delivered to your door.
